/////////////////////////////////////////// Over 5,000 Scouts for Jamboree on the Air: Posted: 09 Aug 2016 05:21 PM PDT http://www.eham.net/articles/37340 Kota Kinabalu: More than 5,000 scouts in the State are expected to take part in the international 59th Jamboree on the Air (Jota) and the 20th Jamboree on the Internet (Joti) from Oct 14-16. Sabah was also selected as the nation's host for the annual event which gathers scouts around the world to communicate through amateur radio sets and the Internet. Deputy National Chief Scout Commissioner Datuk Dr Awang Zaini Suntim said about 10 stations will be opened throughout the State during the event. "There are many scouts who have amateur radio licences and most are capable of handling their own radios. "And during the event we will be communicating with others around the world and the programme is also internationally recognised. "The programme provides an opportunity for scouts to interact through amateur radio where their first interactions through the radios will lead to continuous friendship via email or the Internet," he said after the launching of the 5th State-level National Jota at the BP House, here, Saturday. Awang Zaini said radio is still relevant albeit a traditional mode of communication. "Now we can communicate through various media like mobile phones and the Internet but radio still plays an important role for the community and the world. /////////////////////////////////////////// Radio Enthusiast Facing Fresh Planning Challenge Over 14m Tall Mast: Posted: 09 Aug 2016 05:22 PM PDT http://www.eham.net/articles/37339 A RADIO enthusiast who lost a protracted battle with Stroud District Council over a nine-metre aerial is now facing fresh challenges over an even taller mast. In 2009 Robert Dodson was ordered to dismantle an eight metre tall mast he erected without permission in the back garden of his home in Middleyard, near King's Stanley. Since then he moved to a bungalow in Rodborough to continue to passion as an amateur radio ham. Mr Dodson has now submitted a planning application to erect an even taller 14 metre mast near an orchard at the bottom of his garden in 22 Southgate Crescent. He stresses the new mast would include a winch would allow it to be raised only during the hours it is being used, and that it is hidden by fruit trees. /////////////////////////////////////////// Ham Talk Live #26 (DMR) Digital Mobile Radio: Posted: 08 Aug 2016 05:00 PM PDT http://www.eham.net/articles/37338 Thursday night at 9 PM Eastern on Ham Talk Live!
