/////////////////////////////////////////// Ham Radio Operators Reach Out to Public for Help to Wounded Warriors: Posted: 12 Sep 2016 05:22 PM PDT http://www.eham.net/articles/37532 PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Ham radio operators from Philadelphia's Holmesburg section are reaching out to the public for help in a service project to benefit our wounded warriors. Bob Josuweit is president of the Holmesburg Amateur Radio Club and is helping to coordinate the project. He says the club is asking you to save the envelopes of the cards or letters you might receive and donate the stamps from those envelopes to the group for its "Stamps for the Wounded" project. "Cancelled stamps are collected and then distributed to local VA hospitals and other convalescent facilities where our wounded warriors can receive occupational therapy using the stamps either to put into albums or to make decorative items." /////////////////////////////////////////// Supervisors Approve Amateur Radio Antenna at Centennial Library: Posted: 12 Sep 2016 05:20 PM PDT http://www.eham.net/articles/37531 At their Sept. 6 meeting, the La Paz County Board of Supervisors approved installation of a radio repeater and an antenna by My La Paz Radio at the Centennial Library between Salome and Wenden. Prior the vote, the supervisors heard a presentation from the organization's founder, Dave Anderson. He said they try to promote educational and social opportunities for young people through amateur radio. The repeater was needed so My La Paz could bring services to the McMullen Valley, Anderson said. "Those mountains are a huge hurdle," he said. Anderson said the organization started approximately a year ago when he looked at the youth of the 22 communities in the county and found many of them live in isolated areas with high poverty. "There's less than one child per square mile in the county," he said. Anderson said amateur radio was seen as a way for young people to interact and form contacts. It is also a way to bring educational programs to youth around the county. He said they have licenses 34 young amateur radio operators in the last eight months. They are particularly interested in science education. On Sept. 2 and Sept. 4, 10 young people in the county woke up early, and spoke to each other on amateur radio as the International Space Station passed overhead. /////////////////////////////////////////// Yaesu System Fusion Pesentation: Posted: 11 Sep 2016 05:00 PM PDT http://www.eham.net/articles/37530 Special Amateur Radio Roundtable show on W5KUB.COM Tuesday night September 13th at 8 PM CST on Yaesu System Fusion.
