Amateur Station Licence Examination

The next Amateur Station Licence Examination will be held on Thursday
7th December in the ComReg Offices in Dublin. Some applications have
already been received. As places are limited and are allocated on a
first come first served basis, those intending to sit the examination
should apply soon. Full details, including entry procedure, examination
fee and how to pay the fee online are available at www.irts.ie/exam .
Please note that it is necessary to download the application form from
the web page and forward the completed form and the appropriate fee so
as to secure a place for the examination.

It is important to note that even if you pay the fee online you must
still complete and forward the application form.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Thursday 16th
November. Four Exam Reports which were previously published in Echo
Ireland are available on the Downloads section of the website at
www.irts.ie/downloads under "Studying for the Harmonised Amateur Radio
Examination Certificate". These reports contain very useful information
for anyone studying for the Licence Examination. Intending candidates
are advised to pay particular attention to the syllabus for the
examination especially Annexes 1 and 2.

Counties Contest

The IRTS 40 metres counties contest takes place on Sunday next, 8th
October, from 12:00 to 14:00 UTC. There are SSB only and SSB/CW mixed
mode sections for fixed and portable stations as well as a separate
section for stations using the Wild Atlantic Way special call signs,
and an SWL section. Recognising that local propagation on 40 metres is
often poor, the rules for this contest have been changed to provide
that, for EI/GI stations, overseas DXCC entities are also counted as
multipliers in addition to EI/GI counties. See www.irts.ie/contests for
details.

Scout Jamboree on the Air

Another popular event of the year is coming up this month. The 60th
Scout Jamboree on the Air will be held over the weekend 20 to 22nd
October next. Paul EI2CA lets us know that, as in recent years, he is
organising a station for the 1st Meath Navan Scouts for the event. The
callsign will be EI1DD and Paul needs a couple of additional operators
to give a hand. All equipment will be supplied, so it is just a case of
coming along on the day. If you can help out, you can give Paul EI2CA a
call on 087 2523908.
