YOTA ON-LINE ON THURSDAY 25 FEBRUARY

Session 10 of the popular YOTA On-line takes place at 19:00 UTC (21:00 CAT
) on Thursday 25 February with the main topic "Gone exploring!" We will in
troduce our community to different aspects of our common hobby, like WWF
F, IOTA and SOTA with our amazing guests live on the show. Furthermore
, we will also have a special prize draw after solving our new riddle li
ve on the show. We will give away two more ICOM merchants packages for tha
t occasion. We will be streaming live again on our Youtube, Facebook and
Twitch channels. Furthermore, we will try to stream via the QO-100 geos
tationary satellite in DATV mode again. Get all the information on the SAR

SARL AWARDS AND TROPHIES

The SARL Council met on Tuesday evening 16 February via Skype to look at t
he motions and nominations received. Two motions and five nominations to s
erve on Council were received. Fifteen awards were approved for contesting
, but once again the SARL Youth Contest Award will not be awarded.

PEARS and the Boland ARC submitted nominations for Honorary Life Membershi
p and Jack Twine Awards. Only two operating awards were approved. The list
of Award recipients will be published in the March 2021 Radio ZS as well
as the AGM Booklet which will be available from 7 March. The SARL AGM wil
l be held on Saturday 17 April 2021.

LICENCE RENEWAL - DO NOT DO ANYTHING NOW.

As communicated in SARL Communication on 29 January and SARL News on 31 Ja
nuary 2021, the SARL will communicate once ICASA has completed the guide
lines of the various actions required to transfer your information to the
new on-line data base and renew you licence.

Please do not e-mail or call the SARL Office, the SARL President or SARL
Councillors. They cannot assist you at this time. The SARL will inform yo
u and publish the guidelines and step by step instructions once received f
rom ICASA.

CALL FOR PAPERS FOR THE TECHNICAL SYMPOSIUM

The SARL Technical Symposium, "Unlocking Amateur Radio Technology 2021"
, will be held on the BlueJeans platform on Saturday 27 March 2021. This
is the first call for papers. Please submit a brief synopsis of the propo
sed paper in MS Word format by Friday 26 February 2021 to
..za ) . This call for papers is open to all rad
io amateurs world-wide.

The Symposium will run from 10:00 - 14:00 CAT and the speaking slots are t
ypically 20 minutes with 10 minutes for discussion and questions. This is
the ideal opportunity to share the project that you have been working on
with your fellow radio amateurs and an opportunity to show the world that
technology is alive and well in Amateur Radio.

THE WEST RAND BOOT SALE ON SATURDAY 27 FEBRUARY

The West Rand Amateur Radio Club would like to invite all radio amateurs t
o the upcoming boot sale on Saturday 27 February. The gates will open earl
ier than usual at 09:30 for everyone and trading can start at 10:00. This
early start has been arranged to accommodate the SARL 40 m Grid Square Sp
rint starting at 14:00. All the usual vendors will attend, the West Rand
Club will also have a table. Book your stand and table by contacting Phil
lip, ZS6PVT on mobile 083 267 3853.

Please note that the COVID protocols will be followed on the day and only
the persons with a mask will be allowed to attend after a screening and r
egistration. We would like to urge only persons in good health without und
erlying conditions to attend and to rather be conservative in considering
venturing out.

CONTEST NEWS
The first SARL 40 m Club Grid Square sprint for 2021 takes place from 12:0
0 to 13:00 UTC (14:00 to 15:00 CAT) on Saturday 27 February, which is al
so International Milk Tart Day. It is CW and phone activity; the exchange
is an RS or RST report, the name of your Club and your grid square. You
earn two points per QSO, 2 points for each new grid and 1 point for eac
h new Club. Your log must be submitted by midnight on Thursday 4 March 202
1 to ) . Get all the informatio
n on page 65 of the 2021 Blue Book.

The Port Elizabeth Amateur Radio Society would like to thank all those who
took part in the PEARS National VHF/UHF contest that was held from Friday
15 to Sunday 17 January 2021. Thank you for submitting your logs! Nine lo

PROPAGATION REPORT

Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, reports that the solar activity is expected to
be at low levels. There are currently a couple of tiny sunspot regions vi
sible and no solar flaring is expected. If you want to do your own frequen
cy predictions, the expected effective sunspot number for the week will
be around one. The 15 to 30 m bands will especially during the afternoons

SARL-TOEKENNINGS EN TROFEË

Die SARL Raad het op Dinsdag aand 16 Februarie via Skype vergader om te ky
k na die mosies en benoemings wat ontvang is. Twee mosies en vyf benoeming
s om in die Raad te dien, is ontvang. Vyftien toekennings is goed gekeur
vir kompetisies, maar die SARL Jeug Kompetisie toekenning word weereens
nie toegeken nie.

PEARS en die Boland ARK het nominasies ingedien vir die Erelewenslid en Ja
ck Twine-toekennings. Slegs twee bedryfstoekennings is goed gekeur. Die ly
s van ontvangers van toekennings word gepubliseer in die Maart 2021 Radio
ZS, sowel as in die AJV-boekie wat vanaf 7 Maart beskikbaar sal wees. D
ie SARL-AJV word op Saterdag 17 April 2021 gehou.

gaan wees. Tans is daar 'n paar klein sonvlekkies sigbaar. Daar word nie
sonfakkels verwag nie. Diegene wat hulle eie frekwensie voorspellings wil
doen, kan 'n verwagte effektiewe sonvlektelling van een vir die week ge
bruik. Radio amateurs kan veral smiddae goeie DX openinge op die 15 tot 30
