The South African Radio League broadcasts a news bulletin each Sunday in A
frikaans and English at 08:15 and 08:30 Central African Time respectively

Ongoing Licence renewal issues

The SARL has not received any communication from ICASA this week. It appea
rs that the ongoing spectrum auction issues have taken up the executives
' time. The SARL, on Friday, lodged an urgent appeal to the Ch
airman of the ICASA Council to extend the deadline for license renewals by
three months to 30 June 2021. The SARL also requested that ICASA expedite
s the availability of a guideline and videos to assist licensees to naviga
te their new online license system. The current system requires Google Chr
ome and is not backward compatible to other browsers. The SARL also pointe
d this out to ICASA Management as a major issue to be addressed.

ELECTRONIC VOTING FOR THE 2020 SARL ANNUAL FINANCIAL STATEMENTS

In terms of Rule 8.9, the SARL Annual Financial Statements for the Year
ended 30 June 2020 were uploaded to the SARL web site on Friday 12 March
2021 and a SARL Communication was sent to members on the same date. Membe
rs have thirty (30) days to consider the accounts, where after an electr
onic vote will take place from 00:00 CAT on Monday 12 April 2021 and will
close at 23:59 CAT on Thursday 22 April 2021. Details about the voting wi
ll be published in SARL News closer to the time.

SARL technical symposium on 27 March 2021

The Unlocking Amateur Radio Technology Symposium will take place on 27 Mar
ch 2021. The programme is taking shape and will be available early next we
ek. The programme includes discussions like "Contesting 101" with Chris Bu
rger ZS6EZ. There is a contest that will take your amateur radio experienc
e to a higher level. Chris will explain how.

Brian Jacobs takes the lid off the SARL Next Generation beacon programme.
The SARL President will tell delegates why VHF and UHF are important for
amateur radio's future.
Dr Pierre Cilliers of SANSA Space Sciences will talk about propagation pre
dictions, how to use them and how radio amateurs can get more involved.
How to build your own OSCAR 100 station from locally available sub-system
s will be discussed by Anton Janovsky, ZR6AIC.

The symposium is free for SARL members and R50 for non-members. Students m
ay attend for free. Registration details will be available on the SARL web
on Monday.

CONTEST NEWS

The second Wednesday 80 m Club Sprint runs from 17:30 to 18:30 UTC (19:30
to 20:30 CAT) on Wednesday 17 March - St Patrick's Day. Y
ou may operate CW and phone during the sprint and the exchange is an RS or
RST report, your club's name and your 4-character grid square.
Please remember the QSY rules for Sprints. Get the rules on page 63 of th
e 2021 Blue Book.

The first leg of the SARL 40 m Club Grid Square Sprint was held on Saturda
y 27 February and fifty-five (55) logs were received, reflecting 708 QSO
s, 404 grids and 327 Clubs worked. Twelve Clubs participated.

3rd the Bo-Karoo ARC - 280 points (4 logs)

PROPAGATION REPORT

Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, reports that the solar activity is expected to
be at low levels. There is a single sunspot region with a simple magnetic
configuration visible. Minor solar flaring can be expected. If you want t
o do your own frequency predictions, the expected effective sunspot numb
er for the week will be around eight. The 15 to 30 m bands will, especia
lly during the afternoons, provide some good DX fun. Please visit the we

Die SARL het vandeesweek geen kommunikasie van OKOSA ontvang nie. Dit blyk
dat die voort slepende spektrum veiling kwessies die bestuur se tyd in be
slag geneem het. Die SARL het Vrydag 'n dringende beroep op die voorsitter
van die OKOSA-raad gerig om die sperdatum vir verlenging van lisensies me
t drie maande tot 30 Junie 2021 te verleng. Die SARL het ook versoek dat O
KOSA die beskikbaarheid van 'n riglyn en video's bespoedig om lisensie hou
ers te help om deur die nuwe aanlyn lisensie stelsel te navigeer. Die huid
ige stelsel benodig Google Chrome en is nie agter uit versoenbaar met ande
r web programme nie. Die SARL het die bestuur van OKOSA ook daarop gewys d
at dit 'n belangrike kwessie is wat aan gespreek moet word.

ELEKTRONIESE STEMMING VIR DIE 2020 SARL JAARLIKSE FINANSIËLE STATE

In gevolge Reël 8.9 is die SARL Finansiële Jaarstate vir die jaa
r geëindig 30 Junie 2020 op SARL webwerf op Vrydag 12 Maart 2021 gela
ai en 'n SARL-Kommunikasie is op dieselfde datum aan lede gestuur. Lede he
t dertig (30) dae om die rekeninge te oorweeg, waarna 'n elektroniese st
emming sal plaasvind vanaf 00:00 SAT op Maandag 12 April 2021 en sal om 23
:59 SAT op Donderdag 22 April 2021 sluit. Besonderhede oor die stemming sa
l gepubliseer word in SARL Nuus nader aan die tyd.

SARL TEGNIESE SIMPOSIUM OP 27 MAART 2021

Die "Ontsluit Amateur Radio Tegnologie" Simposium vind op
27 Maart 2021 plaas. Die program neem vorm aan en sal vroeg volgende week
beskikbaar wees. Die program bevat besprekings soos "Contesting 101" met
Chris Burger, ZS6EZ. Daar is 'n kompetisie wat jou Amateur Radio ervari
ng na 'n hoër vlak sal neem. Chris sal verduidelik hoe.

Brian Jacobs neem die deksel van die SARL volgende generasie baken program
.. Die SARL-president sal aan afgevaardigdes vertel waarom BHF en UHF belan
grik is vir die toekoms van Amateur Radio. Dr Pierre Cilliers van SANSA Ru
imte Wetenskappe sal praat oor voortplantings voorspellings, hoe om dit
te gebruik en hoe radioamateurs meer betrokke kan raak. Anton Janovsky,
ZR6AIC sal bespreek hoe om jou eie OSCAR 100-stasie te bou uit plaaslik b
eskikbare sub stelsels.

Die simposium is gratis vir SARL-lede en R50 vir nie-lede. Studente woon g

.. Diegene wat hulle eie frekwensie voorspellings wil doen, kan 'n verwag
te effektiewe sonvlektelling van agt vir die week gebruik. Radio amateurs
