J105 Boise To Flip To Jack-FM

Posted: 12 Mar 2021 11:43 AM PST
https://radioinsight.com/headlines/2...ip-to-jack-fm/

Lotus Communications will flip Classic Rock J105 105.1 KJOT Boise ID to
Variety Hits 105.1 Jack-FM on Monday, March 15.

KJOT ranked seventeenth in the Boise market with a 2.2 share in the Fall
2020 Nielsen Audio ratings. The flip will place it in direct format
competition with Iliad Media Groups 96.1 Bob-FM KSRV Ontario, which
currently ranks fourth in the market with a 4.7 share. The move also
creates some breathing room for Lotus clustermates in Rock 100.3 The X KQXR
and AAA 94.9 The River KRVB.

KJOT was known as “J105” from 1985 until 2010 when it broadened its
playlist to include music from the 1970s through 2000s as “Variety Rock
105.1“. The station then streamlined its music back to a typical 70s-90s
Classic Rock mix in 2014 as “Rock 105.1” but retained its jockless
presentation. It would then return to the J105 brand and re-add
personalities in March 2017.

FCC Issues Enforcement Advisory Regarding Sponsorship Identification

Posted: 12 Mar 2021 08:44 AM PST
https://radioinsight.com/headlines/2...dentification/

The FCC has issued Enforcement Advisories today reminding radio stations of
their obligations to comply with Sponsorship Identification Laws and
placing any shared service agreement such as an LMA or JSA in their online
public files.

The agency states that commercial broadcast licensees are obligated to
ensure that every “sharing” agreement pertaining to the operation of the
station whether involving the lease of airtime, the joint sale of
advertising, or the sharing of operational services, is retained in their
Online Public Inspection Files (OPIF). This includes all LMAs, JSAs, or
other shared services agreements in place. These agreements may be redacted
as necessary to protect confidential or proprietary information, but they
must be retained in OPIF as long as they remain in force.

In regards to Sponsorship Identification, the FCC is cracking down on
paid-for programs that are not disclosed as such stating, Broadcasters who
air paid-for programming without disclosing the program’s sponsor can
mislead the public and promote unfair competition. Such non-disclosures
foster the perception by the public that a paid announcement is the
station’s editorial content, while concealing that the station is being
paid by a third party to promote a particular message. That impression can
also give undisclosed sponsors an unfair advantage over competitors whose
paid programming is properly disclosed as paid-for material.

The notice regarding the online public files can be read here, while the
notice about the Sponsorship Identification Laws can be found here.
