Cumulus Combines Podcast Network Into Its Primary Branding

https://radioinsight.com/headlines/2...mary-branding/

Cumulus Media will consolidate the Westwood One Podcast Network under the
companys brand name.

As of May 6, the network will be rebranded as the Cumulus Podcast Network.
The move allows the company to better brand both the company and the
network to ad buyers much like Entercoms consolidation of its corporate
name and Radio.com into Audacy did.

CUMULUS MEDIA, a leading audio-first media and entertainment company, today
announces the re-branding of the successful Westwood One Podcast Network to
the CUMULUS PODCAST NETWORK, effective May 6, 2021.

The move consolidates the Company’s national and local podcasts into one
entity, capturing the full breadth and diversity of the portfolio and
providing advertisers with a comprehensive offering of podcasts, in
addition to streaming, mobile, social and display. Suzanne Grimes,
Executive Vice President Corporate Marketing and President, Westwood One,
will retain responsibility for the Company’s podcast sales network.

“Placing our podcasts under the Cumulus umbrella allows us to offer our
advertising partners easy access to the company’s full arsenal of digital
products,” said Grimes. “This exciting expansion takes our fast-growing
podcast network to the next level, as well as simplifies the buying process
for agencies and brands, allowing our partners to seamlessly tap into the
full power of our premium on-demand audio content.”

FCC Announces Non-Commercial FM Filing Window And Application Cap

Posted: 21 Apr 2021 09:47 AM PDT
https://radioinsight.com/headlines/2...plication-cap/

The FCC announced today it will hold a filing window for new non-commerical
FMs from November 2 through November 9.

The filing window will be for vacant allocations in the reserved band (88.1
to 91.9) only. The agency has also instituted a ten application limit by
any party just as it did in the previous non-comm window in 2007. The
agency states that the cap supports the goals of localism and diversity
reflected in the NCE FM point system and remains a reasonable limit to
prevent mass filings by speculators and to permit the efficient and
expeditious processing of window-filed applications.

A few commenters requested the FCC consider a five station limit, NPR
agreed with the ten station limit, while Educational Media Foundation asked
for the ability to designate ten as primary applications with the ability
to exceed the limit for non-mutually exclusive applications for areas in
non rated counties.

The Media Bureau (Bureau) announces a filing window for applications for
noncommercial educational (NCE) FM new station construction permits. The
filing window will open at 12:01 am EDT on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, and
close at 6:00 pm EST on November 9, 2021. The window is available for FM
reserved band (channels 201 – 220) proposals.1

New applications must be filed electronically on FCC Form 2100, Schedule
340 in the Bureau’s Licensing Management System (LMS). The Commission
recently amended its rules and procedures for filing NCE FM applications
and selecting and licensing competing NCE FM applications.2 The Bureau will
provide detailed information about filing procedures and requirements by
public notice in advance of the filing window. Interested applicants also
may monitor the Audio Division Web Page for information and developments:

Nielsen: March PPM Shows Significant Audience Gains

Posted: 21 Apr 2021 09:15 AM PDT
https://radioinsight.com/headlines/2...udience-gains/

RADIO LISTENING SHOWS BIG GAINS NIELSEN’S MARCH PPM SURVEY REVEALS

The March 2021 PPM survey revealed significant gains in radio listening
across the aggregate of markets, to the tune of an 8% increase
month-over-month in total AQH audience. This marks the largest single-month
increase in average audience since June of last year.

These gains were driven by increases in both weekly reach (adding nearly 4
million consumers in March a 3% increase versus February) as well as time
spent listening (gaining by over 20 minutes on average a 5% increase
compared with last month).

The year-over-year comparison between the March 2020 and March 2021 PPM
stands at a 96 index for weekly reach and a 93 index for AQH. This means
that from a weekly reach perspective, the radio audience in March 2021 is
96% the size of the same month from one year ago, while for AQH the number
is 93%.

This uptick in radio usage mirrors the positive changes in consumer
sentiment and habits observed during Nielsen’s latest radio consumer study
conducted during the March survey.

Six in 10 Americans are now ‘ready to go’ and feeling life is becoming more
normal in their city or town.

Those working outside the home have increased nearly 70% since last April,
while consumers spending more than an hour each day in a vehicle has more
than doubled in that time.

Heavy radio listeners, because they are more mobile and ‘ready to go’, are
also more likely to engage in top activities including shopping for
groceries, driving longer distances, ordering take-out, and getting
together in-person with friends and family, particularly among those who
are vaccinated.
