4U1U, UNITED NATIONS HQ. On their way to the Dayton HamVention, operators
Mustapha/DL1BDF and his friends Karl-Heinz/DL1BAH, Manfred DK1BT and
Stefan/DG2BDB will stop in New York, and operate 4U1UN as guests of the
4U1UN ARC. Activity will take place between May 12-15th. QSL this operation
"ONLY" via DL1BDF, the DARC bureau prefered. ADDED NOTES: At the Dayton
HamVention they will represent both the DARC Club NORDEN (DOK I09) and
the ASTRA which is the National Ham Radio Tunisian Scouts organization.
Also, from NY to Dayton and back, they will be active from their mobile
home as /DK0FI/m, and the U.S. prefix according to the call area that
they will be in. QSL via DL1BDF, the DARC bureau prefered, too.

5Z, KENYA (New Bands). Ted Alleyne, 5Z4NU, the Chairman and Secretary of
the Amateur Radio Society of Kenya, reports that the Kenyan licensing
authority (the CCK) has granted Kenyan amateurs the use of two new bands:
160 meters -- 1810-1850 kHz
30 meters -- 10100-10150 kHz

9A0, CROATIA. During the Preparatory Central European IARU Region 1
meeting, April 15-17th, look for the special callsign 9A0IARU to be
activated from the Island of Murter (EU-136). Activity on what bands/modes
was not mentioned. QSL via Emir, 9A6AA.

9G, GHANA. Sigi, DL7DF, will be active from here on a one man operation
between April 18-25th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters CW only with
a little SSTV. He will have a 700w amp with a beam and dipole antennas.

9Q, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO. Mike, ZR5MGK, is now active as 9Q6MGK
until mid-April. Reports indicate that he will be active on SSB on the
WARC bands but mainly on 20/15/10 meters. Over the past week QSNs show
he was active on 20 meters between 1800-1900z. Mike is only using 50
watts into a dipole. QSL via ZR5MGK.

AC4TT (Interesting Station For The WPX). According to Charles, K4VUD,
the Tibet Radio Club obtained a new callsign of AC4TT in honor of the
old Tibet callsign prefix of AC4. The AC4TT callsign appear during this
past weekend's CQ WW WPX SSB Contest. PLEASE NOTE that the new AC4TT
callsign is a USA callsign. It was obtained in rememberance of the old
Tibet AC4 prefix of eons ago, for the Tibet Radio Club of which Charles
was the founder.

C21, NAURU (CW Ops Needed!). Bill, VK4FW, informs OPDX that the Oceania
Amateur Radio DX Group (ODXG) will be embarking on an operation from here
before Christmas. They will predominately be a CW and RTTY operation with
some SSB. They are looking for more CW operators for this operation. If

C6, BAHAMAS. Dave, G4WFQ, will be active as C6AWF from Treasure Cay,
Abaco Island (NA-080), April 15-29th. Activity will be on 80-10 meters,
including the WARC bands, but mostly CW and RTTY, with some SSB. QSL

DX0, SPRATLY ISLANDS (Update). Eddie, DU1EV, informs OPDX readers that
unfortunately, they were not able to get a ride to the Pagasa Island
last March 20th (there was no ride available). The next possible trip
is on the 30th. They do hope this trip will materialize and that there
will be transportation space for them. He mentioned that 4F1OZ has gone
back to the mainland and now there are only two operators awaiting the
next trip (4F2KWT and DU1EV).

DXCC NEWS. Bill Moore, NC1L, ARRL DXCC Manager, informs OPDX readers:
"Just a reminder that the deadline to be shown in the next DXCC Honor
Roll list is March 31, 2005. Submissions must be postmarked March 31,
2005, for your submission to count for this listing. The DXCC Honor Roll
list will appear in August 2005 QST. There are 335 entities on the DXCC
list and you must be within the numerical top 10 DXCC entities to qualify.
The current minimum requirement for Honor Roll is 326 current entities.
(A submission is not needed if you already meet this requirement)."

EI, IRELAND. Richard, G3CWI, is on holiday here between now and April 8th.
While there he intends to activate some of Ireland's unactivated hills
for the Summits on the Air (SOTA). Operation will be between 1100-1500z
on 40 meters CW around 7030kHz. His primary radio objective is to activate
Carrauntoohill, at 1039 metres Ireland's highest mountain.

FORT ACTIVITY. Ramon, PY6KY, will be active as ZW6FSM from Fort Sao Marcos
(DFB-BA-05) between April 17-18th for CW and April 20-21st for SSB. QSL
via PY6KW, direct or by the Bureau.

FT5W, CROZET ISLAND. Jean Paul, F5BU/FT5WJ, is now QRT. He made his last
QSO on March 21st. He mentions that during his spare time he made 2114
QSOs with 1913 different stations. Jean Paul states, "I apologize for not
having made more QSOs. I know that Crozet is a rare country, but I've done
my best. I would thank all of those who sent me their congrats."

FT5, KERGUELEN. The FT5XO operation is expected to continue until April
1st. No updates have been reported by the operators, so we do not have
much to report on. There has been activity on RTTY this past weekend.

IOTA NEWS......................
AF-NEW. Ivan, OM3CGN, and other 7X operators will activate Sanja
Island (Algerian island part of the Mediterranean Sea Coast
Centre Group), from May 1-5th. More details later.

EU-NEW. An amateur radio team led by Dave, MM0ALM, assisted by well-
known and experienced island activator Seamus "Jim", MM0CWJ,
will leave from the Orkney Islands on June 11th, and will
travel over 300 miles to activate Rockall Island between June
14-21st. They will rely on a member of the SAS to get them
onto the rock from an inflatable and hope to put up a small
tent on a tiny ledge a few metres square. Operation will be
primarily SSB (all bands, as appropriate). The callsign will
be MS0IRC/p, the Hebridean Island Radio Club callsign. The
DXpedition's QSL manager will be G0HXN. Jim also hopes to
operate 50 MHz, even during the sea voyage, signing MM0CWJ/MM.
This is expected to be a hazardous operation. Read the article,

EU-010
EU-059. Alan, G0RCI, will lead a small group to St. Kilda (SCOTIA DI23)
to operate as GB0SK from May 2-6th. Operation is expected to
be from a designated camp-site, and they plan to have 2 separate
stations active with a variety of antennas. All QSOs will be
acknowledged via the Bureau. G0RCI will also answer all
appropriate "direct" requests addressed to his "home QTH".
The team may also activate Bernera (IOTA EU-010 and SCOTIA HI15)
as GM0GRC (callsign of the Grantham Radio Club G0GRC in GM) on
the outward and return journeys on May 1st and/or 6th. This is
a long sea-crossing with constant Atlantic swell. Success
will be, as always, very much WX-dependent.

EU-057. Seven German operators will activate Ummanz Island (O-06 for
the German Islands Award) on May 2-8th. They will operate on
all bands CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK31. Operators mentioned a
DL1APR, DL1APW, DL1NUF, DL5AOJ, DL7NFK, DL9NDS and DM3BJ. QSL
via their home callsigns.

EU-123. Andre, GM3VLB, hopes to activate the Isle of May (SCOTIA CS01
and WLOTA GM-0521) between April 2-9th. Transport to this
uninhabited 2-lighthouse rock/bird sanctuary is by R.I.B.,
so food, water and generator fuel supplies may need to be
rationed. QSL direct only, via home callsign. ADDED NOTE
FROM AND For confirmation, a simple chronological list-
DATE/UTC - of all previous QSOs is enough - save your cards
- he no longer collects them. If you NEED this one (by the
Bureau), send him an E-mail stating day/time/band...

NA-224. Operators XE1XOX, XE1ZJR, XE1KOF, XE1ZAO, XE1YJL, XE1IH,
XE1VC, XE1XNH and XE1XTK will be active from the lighthouse
on Sacrificios Island as XF2ZEX between March 30th and April
3rd. Activity will be on 160-2 meters on CW/SSB/RTTY/PSK31.

LIGHTHOUSE ACTIVITY. Look for Ed, WA3WSJ, to activate a couple of light-
houses during this week. As he heads down to Atlanticon (QRP Conference),
in Maryland, he will activate Turkey Point Lighthouse (ARLHS USA-857) on
Thursday, March 31st. He will also activate on April 1st, the Concord
Point Lighthouse (ARLHS USA-186) in Harve de Grace, MD. QSL via his home
callsign, direct preferred, bureau is OK.

NEW DIA SPONSOR. Jens, OZ5MJ, reports that the Danish Island Award, which
was orginally sponsored by the local branch in Odense of Experimenterende
Danske Radioamatuer (OZ3FYN), will now be taken over and sponsored by the
Danish DX Group (DDXG). The new awards will have the same layout as the
originals and are currently being printed. The only difference is that
the DDXG logo will be on the award. The profits from the award will be

PIRATED CALLSIGN. Laurent, F8BBL, informed OPDX that his callsign is
being PIRATED. The individual is using it on the PacketCluster to put
out false information and also on the air (CW/SSB/RTTY/SSTV) to QRM
DX operations.

After many years, the Mediterraneo DX Club (MDXC) operated as IR8M,
and now the MDXC HQ received from Italian Ministery of Communications

SPECIAL BIRTHDAY ACTIVITY. On April 25thm Tito, LU7EE, will celebrate his
60th birthday. To celebrate his birthday and his 42 years on amateur radio,
Tito has set a goal to be active for 60 hours, one for each year of his
life, using the special callsign L73E. His activity on the air will begin
at 0000z, April 23rd and end at 1200z, April 25th. Suggested frequencies
will be:
CW - 1815, 3515, 7015, 10110.5, 14015, 18085, 21015, 24915 and 28015 KHz
SSB - 3550, 7050, 14150 and 28910 KHz.

SPECIAL EVENT. During the Rotary's International Centennial Convention
this June, the Rotarians of Amateur Radio (ROAR) will operate a special
event station, W9R, beginning June 18th and concluding June 22nd. This
station will be based within the Lakefront parking area of Chicago's
Soldier Field immediately adjacent to the McCormick Convention Center.
The equipment that will be used is being loaned to ROAR by the Chicago
Chapter of the American Red Cross. The station equipment is part of the
Emergency Communications Response Vehicle which will also be on display.

SPECIAL EVENT. Look for special event station CF3VEDAY to be active from
May 5-11th, to celebrate the official opening of the new Canadian War
Museum in Ottawa, the national capital of Canada, on May 8th, and the
60th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) which, on May 8, 1945,

VE3, CANADA. Bela, HA8FW, is in Toronto until June 10th. He will be active

VO2, CANADA (Zone 2). Steve, VE2TKH, is now in Labrador City and will
operate the club station as VO2ZT until March 30th. He states that this
will be a mini DXpedition in duration but with nice equipment. See his

WINDMILL ACTIVITIES (WOTA) AND AWARD. Martin, G3VOF, informs OPDX readers
that this year the Havering and District Amateur Radio Club (G4HRC) will
be taking part in the National Mills On-The-Air weekend, May 7-8th. This
event is for the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (mills
section). The HDAR Club will be activating no less than four mills
on-the-air. The windmill locations, and the callsigns of the windmills,
and operators are as follows:

GB2UW - Upminster, Essex. This mill will be run by operators M0MAC, G3JSR,
G3SVK, G0PIA, M3DOQ, M3DOV and help from SWL Chris Lester. The
suggested frequencies a
CW - 3510, 7010, 14010, 18075, 21010 and 28010 kHz
SSB - 3735, 7055, 14155, 18120, 21255, 28455 and 50160 kHz
FM - 145.400 and 433.400 MHz

GB0MW - Mountnessing, Essex. This mill will be run by operators M0JKA,
G4UNS and G0BOF. The suggested frequencies a
CW - 3515, 7015, 14015, 18080, 21015 and 28015 kHz
SSB - 3745, 7065, 14165, 18130, 21265, 28465 and 50165 kHz
FM - 145.425 and 433.425 MHz

GB2ARW - Aythorpe, Roding, Essex. This mill will be run by operators
G3TPJ and M1MOG. The suggested frequencies a
CW - 3520, 7020, 14020, 18085, 21020 and 28020 kHz
SSB - 3755, 7075, 14175, 18140, 21275, 28475 and 50170 kHz
FM - 145.450 and 433.450 MHz

GB5SW - Stock, Essex, this mill will be run by operators G3VOF, G3RJI
and M0BOB. The suggested frequencies a
CW - 3525, 7025, 14025, 18090, 21025 and 28025 kHz
SSB - 3765, 7085, 14185, 18150, 21285, 28485 and 50175 kHz
FM - 145.475 and 433.475 MHz

The Havering and District Amateur Radio Club will be running its own
award program for working the windmills run by the club. This will be
the Essex Windmill Award. This award is offered not only in the UK, but
to EU, and the rest of the world. The requirements for this award in the
UK only is as follows: Work any two of the Windmills (GB2ARW, GB2UW, GB5SW
or GB0MW) on any band any mode. For EU and the rest of the world, just
one Windmill will qualify for the award. In future years there will be
silver, and gold endorsements (once the basic award has been obtained)
for achieving a more difficult operating goal. Details will be given
before the next year's Windmill event. The Awards Manager for this
Certificate is Fred, G3SVK (32, Elgin Ave, Harold Park, Romford, Essex,
RM3 0YT). The cost of the award will be UK =A33.00 inc p&p....... Check
logs is all that is nessessary. SWLs can send also send for the award on
a heard basis. EU is 14 IRCs or 5 EURO. Rest of the world, 16 IRCs or
8 USDs.

XE, MEXICO. Scott, WA6LIE, plans on crusing MM/2 from Long Beach to Puerto
Vallarita, Mazatland and Cabo San Lucas between April 17-24th. He will
use his FT-857D and plans on some Satellite operations (no digital) along
with 6 and 20 meters activity too. Scott hopes to activate a few more
grid square.

ZD8, ASCENSION ISLAND. Operators Carlos/EA1DGZ, Roberto/EA1DBC, Oscar/EC1KW
and Fernando/EA1CNF will be active as ZD8C in the CQ WW DX SSB Contest
(October 29-30th) as a Multi/Multi entry. Antennas to be used a
a 6 element beam for 20/15/10m, a 3 element beam for 20/15/10m, Inverted
"V" for 40/80m and a G5RV for 40/80m. QSL via the bureau or direct to
EA1URS.

ZL6, NEW ZEALAND. The Quartz Hill Use Group station will be active as
ZL6QH in the CQ WW WPX CW Contest (May 28-29th) as a Multi/Multi entry.

ZR, SOUTH AFRICA. Dennis, ZS4BS, SARL HF Manager, stated that with the
change to the South African Radio Regulations in February 2005, all the
restricted licencess now have access to the HF bands. So during the CQ
WW WPX Contest this past weekend, there were plently of ZR callsigns
available.
