3Y0X, PETER I ISLAND (Update). The following press release was put on the
3Y0X Web page dated September 5th, by Ralph/K0IR and Bob/K4UEE (Peter I
DXpedition co-leaders): "The 2006 Peter I (3Y0X) DXpedition Team announced
today that it has been awarded a major sponsorship grant by the Northern
California DX Foundation, Inc. (NCDXF). This DXpedition is funded
principally by the contributions of its twenty-plus team members, but
30% of the total cost must come from the DX community. We are extremely
pleased that the Northern California DX Foundation has decided to be the
DXpedition's largest financial contributor. Their contribution to the
2006 DXpedition exceeds their contribution for last year's postponed effort.
The DXpedition leaders and team members thank NCDXF for their continued
confidence and support. In early February, 2006, a multinational team of
approximately twenty operators, one explorer, and a professional
photographer led by Antarctic DXpedition veterans Ralph Fedor, K0IR, and
Bob Allphin, K4UEE, will activate Peter I Island. Team members come from
France, Norway, Russia, Switzerland, Netherlands, Martinique and the United
States, and many possess significant DXpedition and Antarctic experience."

from the press release indicate that the K7C Team members are converging

September. Captain Bill Austin is preparing the "Machias" to be their
home for the next month. Local amateurs Kimo/KH7U and Pat/NH6UY are doing
yeoman service in handling gear and shipping chores. Ward states, "For
example, to prevent importation of invasive species to Kure, new clothing
is required and all supplies will be deep frozen before shipping! To do
my part, I've purchased the world's ugliest tennis shoes just for the
island, and you'll no doubt see my colorful apparel in several photos."
The press release asks that DXers (especially around the Pacific Rim) to
please be patient as they take advantage of any openings to the other
side of the world. They also ask that DXers to please be disciplined and
stand by when requested. Their first goal will be to give as many different

two most reliable bands for the first few days. Later in the expedition,

QSL INFO AND NEWS......................
Joe, K1JN, informs OPDX that there seems to be much confusion regarding
the various QSL Managers for the VP9I callsign. Different operations
should be QSLed via different managers. Joe states that he has received
many direct and bureau requests for operations that he is not the manager
for, especially the CQWW 2003 CW Contest. He periodically forwards these
cards to the correct managers, but this will slow down the turn around
time of your card considerably. The correct managers a
