Kenwood TS-520
IMHO, the TS-520 is the '57 Chevy of ham rigs. (Or is it the
'65 Mustang, or the '67 GTO?) In any case, $175 at a flea and abt $75 for a new set of tubes (GE 6146Bs MP) got me a fun rig! It does everything I want except WARC bands. kb1gej |

Kenwood TS-520
I had a TS-520....it is a great lil rig...for sure now I have an old TS-820S
with 160 mtrs...and ten mhz. They just keep ticking and tak a licking. Good luck with it...the 6146 tube finals are very durable too. Bob wrote in message oups.com... Maybe rigs like the TS-520, TS-120, TS-130, Yaesu FT0101/A/B/E/EX and the Heath SB-100/101/102 and HW-100/101 are more like the Chevy Vega of amateur transceivers. They do the basics pretty well. They have RIT and can be used with an outboard VFO to make DXing fun. The best part is their affordability. Amateur radio does not have to be expensive in order for one to derive a lot of enjoyment. There are still companies selling accessory filters for all of the rigs mentioned. Dave Heil K8MN |
