We are only against the long-obsolete morse code test for an amateur radio license having below-30-MHz privileges. Robesin is trying the "Big Brother" style of propaganda straight out of George Orwell's novel "1984." He bombards the group with his "charges" in a rather insane (and inane) attempt to make us all look bad. The problem is that we are NOT against anything but the code test element, one which will be eliminated as soon as the R&O is published in the Federal Register with the stated elimination date. Many federally-licensed radio amateurs (having received license certificates suitable for framing) ARE guilty of an overblown sense of self-importance. They've built up their own strawmen based on a tested morse code skill and now think they are the "equal" of ANY radio operator. Few are. Morse code is almost entirely used WITHIN amateur radio since no other radio service bothers with it for communication purposes. To say that is an "incorrect" statement is to banish the reality of the entire radio world in the spectrum from 9 KHz on up to 300 GHz. To say the I am "unlicensed" (as Robesin did) is incorrect. I've been licensed as a Commercial 1st Class Radiotelephone operator since 1956...always renewed, even past the time when all Commercial Radiotelephone license classes were eliminated and lumped together in the single "GROL" or General Radio- telephone Operator License. The GROL once required mail-in renewals but the FCC eventually made those "renewed for life." Further, I've been co-owner of a business radio, PLMRS licensee (Private Land Mobile Radio Service) and being the person in charge of keeping its station technical standards within regulations. It is nonsense for Robesin to insinuate that ONLY amateurs "know how to operate a radio."
