Was Kirk a no coder, or would he have know Morse? I say Picard knew Morse code, because of a combined respect for history, and a desire to communicate in extremis if need be. Kirk was a no coder, because of, well just because. 8^) Apparently Kirk did know the Morse code, since he was able to copy the "SOS" being sent by antique space ship from Earth full of the genetically enhanced people in suspended animation in "Space Seed." 73 de Larry, K3LT A Treker, not a "Trekkie" |

Kirk was a no coder, because of, well just because. 8^) Wrong. Kirk knows Morse. There was the original ST episode where they find the "sleeper ship" contianinf Kahn (Ricardo Montelban) and all his crew in hibernation from the 21st century, and proceed to wake them up. They find the sleeper ship by means of its radio beacon, which is sending CQ over and over. Uhura (didja know she only had the one name?) of course knows what it says and starts reading it for Kirk, but he says "I'm reading it too, Lieutenant". Then, there was the film "Fantastic Voyage" 73 de Jim, N2EY |

There you have it. End of debate. Larry has just stated that someone who knows the sending of SOS knows "the Morse code." Kim W5TIT --- Posted via news://freenews.netfront.net Complaints to |

Which may actually have been a form of inside joke, because one of the pet peeves of many was the too-long CQ with no breaks to listen. 73 de Jim, N2EY |
