Arnie, if you're going to offer this kind of "public service" you
might want to update it once in a while. Brian

Brian,

I've updated my site twice a day for every day of the storm since it was a
tropical depression. I decided to post it to this group because the storm
was within the 24hr strike zone and the path error was down to about 30%.
At that point, no great change in predicted direction or speed was going to
take place. If you took the time to look at the date and time of my post
and the date and time of the advisory, you would have noticed that it was
issued at 5 am EDT and I posted it 30 minutes later. (I'd say that's pretty
timely) The NHC only updates the storm about every seven hours, and even
though I can download the data directly from the NHC computers at any time,
they *only* update the map data and advisories that are *new*. That would
have been around 11 AM (when I was at work) -- The storm hit land within
that time period, then quickly returned to Tropical Storm status and the NHC
advisories ended. At that point there wasn't a need to update it further.
When the next tropical depression forms and is threatening to develop into a
Tropical Storm, come back to my site and you will see these regular updates
for the map and advisories about twice a day.

It *is* my profession, Brian. Unless you don't consider being the Director
of a US Emergency Management Agency a profession. Remember, we all work for
a living and only do Ham radio as a service and or hobby. You might want to
ask before you leap next time.

Brian,

I am now waiting for his response. I thought I had given him a clue when I
said that my computers had a direct link with the NHC computers, but I guess
he didn't see the connection.

Connections? HIM? Maybe after you get his attention with a 20 pound sledge.

When did you become a weatherman? Arnie, I'm well aware of your EMA
affiliation. Being a cop, then getting hired to run a local EMA office
doesn't make you a weatherman. Passing days old hurricane information is a
disservice, not a service under any label you want to put it, professional
or hobby. So don't treat your profession as a hobby.
__________________________________________________ _______________________

The information you posted is not completely factual. (something I've come
to expect from you) I was a US Criminal Investigator for 20 years prior to
being appointed as a Federal EMA Director. I have worked in close
affiliation with local and Federal EMAs for those 20 years and it was one of
the reasons I was qualified for the position. Many EMA Directors come from
backgrounds in Federal Law Enforcement and Fire Services and very few from
weather services (but you already knew that, didn't you) Finally, I posted
the information to my site 30 minutes after the advisory was issued. If
that is "days" old then I'd hate to have you say you'll do something for me
right away. I could be waiting for months. I've pretty much come to the
conclusion that you are nothing but a jerk with an agenda -- hardly worth my
time. I will continue posting advisories to this group throughout the
hurricane season. Feel free to ignore them -- no sweat off my brow.

It seems to me that folks are jumping all over Arnie for trying to
make some information available ...

Carl, the information is available to us straight from the gubment.

I guess the old sayin "No good deed goes unpunished." is true
(at least for a few ungratefuls ...)

If the government web site had gone down...

I say "Give Arnie (and the rest of us) a break and drop it."
(it's not really an "amateur policy" issue, is it???)

Carl - wk3c

You get a "good turn" badge. I'll drop it.
