1/4 Wave Dipoles

You mean you're *hoping* they'll understand how right they are to move the
amateur radio requirements into the 21st Century and challenge you

Completely Dumbed Down, I guess what your trying to say is, lets show the FCC
we know nothing about CW or Theory.

WA8ULX September 17th 03 02:03 PM

"For most 40-meters, the most practical antenna is the 1/4-wave dipole
(66 feet in total length)

A Quarter Wave would only be 33 Feet not 66 feet

WA8ULX September 17th 03 02:05 PM

Then, when proof positive was given, all that's being done now is sneering.

Doesnt even have a CLUE

Caveat Lector September 17th 03 02:21 PM

Huh -- the definition of a dipole is:
Definition: 1.. [n] an aerial half a wavelength long consisting of
two rods connected to a transmission line at the center
So whats with this 1/4 stuff ???

Dont confuse them. These are the same people who think the A-99 has 9.9 DB
Gain.

Caveat Lector September 17th 03 04:34 PM

Oh like on a repeater -- "wow your radio is putting a whopping signal down
here (10 pounds) in Bum-Junk City ???
Or "I'll raise power and be louder" (already full quieting)
And "the first personal is"
Gottcha

That, Sir, is the state of modern day ham radio.

WA8ULX September 17th 03 04:41 PM

Ya know, to be clueless but receptive to learning is one thing. But to be
clueless and determined to remain so is another matter entirely.

Whats sad is they complain about CW, and they dont have a Clue about anything
as simple as a Dipole. Welcome to CBHAM RADIO.

WA8ULX September 17th 03 04:43 PM

9.9 dB Gain -- Relative to a rubber duck or a wet noodle -- perhaps -- hi hi

--

Most of these new ones would argue with you about that. Most dont have clue
what DB is, let alone what Gain means.

WA8ULX September 17th 03 04:52 PM

Heard on a repeater
"I put 50 watts in and get 200 Watts out -- thats 6 dB gain gd buddy'

Yea but, hes forgetting to add the Gain of his Ant and the Gain of the Repeater
Antenna into his figure. And then of course you have to consider ERP so his
figures are probably pretty low.

Now just a minute here Bruce. I had a A-99 on ten meters. And compared to
my Heathkit Cantenna it had 9.9 db gain.

So there.

Help me out here. What sort of a 'balun' or what sort of 'coax' will match
such a device to a 50 to 75 ohm unbalanced output of a usual ARS
transmitter?

Since the Texas TWIT has me blocked, I am addressing this to you Bruce.

Dan/W4NTI

Well I dont know Dan, maybe we could use a Getter to feed it, it might match
it.

WA8ULX September 17th 03 09:22 PM

Its the new hamspeak from the dumbed down amongst us.

Its what Uncle Bob at the Local truck stop told them.

Cantenna.

"Uhhh.... say wot?"

Well, DICK, make that dick, matching is the name of the game with nearly any
"wire" type antenna, so you must be too dumbed down to pick up on that
concept. It doesn't matter the matching, it was said first there was no
such thing as a 1/4 wave antenna. Then, when proof positive was given, the
*cough* superior hams (such as you in your mind) said "it would never work."
Then, when proof positive was given, all that's being done now is sneering.

So, superior ham(s) et al, try again....

Kim, he can NOT do so.

All we get out of DICK is a lot of gratuitous insults and denigrations.

I guess that's what the "superiors" in US ham radio think is the "proper

Bruice is a new Extra; after vowing that he would never upgrade and
surrender his REAL Advanced ticket showing 13wpm Morse Code prowess

You know why I upgraded and it still BUGS you that you cant do the same thing.
Heres what Bothers Brian.

Took the Test on a Bet by 2 No-Coders, did no studying, score 100%, collected
$250.00 from the No-Coders, and to top it off, I got to see the No-Coders fail
there Tech plus.

(+/- code waiver).

No Code waiver on my part

Bruice is the welfare idiot of which he speaks.

Well if thats so Brian, just what does that make you, since you are unable to
even consider passing the EXTRA.

You guys are just upset that you not even smart enough to pass the Extra , let
alone make $250.00.

WA8ULX September 22nd 03 03:55 AM

Nope, that's not the same message. There is a reply to one of my messages
where I'm almost certain he specifically said two CB'ers. I remember it
because I doubted at the time two CB'ers would care enough to bet money on
someone passing a ham license test. Of course, I come from the old school
where if something doesn't make sense, it's probably not true.

Dwight Stewart (W5NET)

It doesnt matter. I dont consider a No-Code any better than a CBer, so whats
the difference. Besides, I have the money and the License to prove it.

WA8ULX,

Please excuse everyone for being a bit confused by this. When someone
pointed out earlier that your birthdate was incorrect, didn't you
reply:

CBplusser, you dont fill it in QRZ fills it in.

Since then, two people have kindly posted instructions on how to fix
it. Now, you are insulting Kim, and telling us that is was you in the
first place who changed your birthdate, because its 'cute'.

Had you told us that up front, we probably would have thought so too.
Now, I'm not sure what your intent was....to foster confrontation,
perhaps? Or are you trying to create a new licence category - Extra
Crass :)

I've never PRETENDED to be one.

I make no bones about not being licensed as an AMATEUR and have

What you have is some idiot who PRETENDS to be an amateur
