YOU CAN EMAIL MISS ABERNATHY AT THE FOLLOWING ADDRESS AND I URGE EVERYONE

TO
DO SO.

I would advise against a mass-mailing campaign to the Commissioner's
direct e-mail address.

The last time the FCC Commissioners got "mail-bombed" by hams
all it did was PO them.

They have staff and a comment/reply comment process ... which
have been used and will continue to be used.

ARRL has done an EXCELLENT job on their technical materials
and the video is a very compelling demonstration of just how bad
the interference really is.

We are just at the "Notice of Inquiry" stage now ... please don't
flame the FCC (and particularly the Commissioners) ... that will
just cause more harm than good.

I believe that NTIA will come down hard on our side on this.
The US Govt agencies that they represent have a LOT of HF
channels that they use and will want to protect ...

I'm not saying "shut up and don't comment" ... all I'm saying is
that the response needs to be measured, polite, and appropriate.

Carl - wk3c

Agreed, Carl. I suspect that by the end of this sad tale, many amateurs
will think much better of the NTIA. Rather than mass emails, right now
an interesting and very good experiment might be to do a little HF
direction finding.Trace the "mystery signals" to their source. Write it
up in a reasonably good fashion, and it might make for some more damning
evidence against BPL.

Mike,

You don't have to DF ... you can clearly tell just by listening when
you're approaching, in, and leaving the BPL area ... and you can
see the couplers they use to get the signal around the transformers.

I agree that it wouldn't be a difficult thing to find. I just think
that if an amateur or group were to take an approach that didn't start
out "I can hear the BPL intereference 60 miles away", it might have more
impact.

Something like " On such and such date, a strong interference showed up
on such and such bands. As the interference did not do away, a local
group of amateurs and myself decided to trace the interference to it's
source.

Then an outline of the DF method, and finally decribing the cause after
finding it.

The point is that if people can easily trace out the interference from
far away, it hammers home that it isn't really a local problem.

My thought is that it's looking more and more like FCC has already
made up their minds, or maybe more accurately had their minds made up
for them. In that case, nothing short of Congressional action to
overturn their action will stave it off.

That might prove a real problem given who is lobbying whom these days.

Dick

My point exactly, you can send Millions of replys to the FCC, its not going to
make any difference. There is way to much MONEY ridding on this thing, and a
BUNCH of WHINNING Hams are not about to sway the FCC and BIG Money.

So what do you suggest? We should just sit on our butts and watch it
go down without a fight or what? Maybe when pigs learn to fly!

You can fight all you want, if that makes you fell better. But Big Money is
controlling this, and 1800 comments fron a bunch of Hams is nothing.

Well,

As Yogi Berra once said - "It ain't over until its over..."

One question, though - would it be too much to ask for you to perhaps
get on board with the rest of the Amateur community and work with us
to fight this issue? We may lose, but to just give up would be much
worse than fighting it. 1801 comments is better than 1800...

As an alternative, could I respectfully suggest that you transition to
your replacement hobby early - we've heard as much whining and
negativity as should be expected for the average group of humans to
endure....

.....unless of course trolling is your new hobby ;) - in that case,
could you please torture another group? alt.whine or alt.troll,
perhaps?

Im not against the ISSUE, I think its a good move for the common man. If Ham
Radio cant figure out how to live with sharing, and Modern Improved Technology,
then HAM RADIO most go.

Well Im already involved in other things, but, I will hang around to see the
final Demise of HAM RADIO
