Default New Packet Net Forming

I also want to announce a new net. It will be on 27.885. It will be for
digital modes. Recommend using 7 bit baudot, inverted.

Central Packet Group is sponsoring a new packet net
group on 27885 khz. Everyone welcome, even hams.

If you were issued one of the old "USxxx" call signs,
these will be honored.

See ya there 73s,

I always wondered- What authority "issues" these fake callsigns?
Is it just some guy promoting a "club" so he can bilk the
foolish out of "membership dues" by issuing them callsigns?
If so, I'd like to start one; I could use the money.
Maybe it'll be the "FI" series call signs (friggin idiots).

After reviewing the info on the Alfa Tango website, it appears that it
is just a radio club based in Italy. As such it obviously has no
authority whatsoever to issue any type of operating licence or
callsign, not in Italy where the Ministero delle Comunicazioni has
the corner on that market , or anywhere else on this planet.

I suspect that the 'USXXXX' designators refer to individual member ID
numbers. Of course, each member would require licencing by their
respective regulatory agency in their home country before operating on
the air. That would be like joining AAA, and claiming that their
membership card is equivalent to a drivers licence....duh.

There may be the odd individual (!) who believes that membership in
the club has provided them with a legitimate radio licence - if so,
I'd strongly recommend that they go and discover the truth before they
risk getting busted for illegal operation.

OTOH, if there's a lucrative market out there for radio callsigns,
I've got dibs on the November Fox Golf XXX number series.....

73, Leo
