In addition to the many accessories clearly described on the auction page,
some items were not listed. This bidder contacted me early in the auction to
tell me he wanted both Yaesu radios. As such, as an extra incentive, I
offered him several additional items (software, computer cables, and cloning
cables). I also notified each bidder of an included MFJ antenna not listed
on the auction page. The total new purchase price of all items included with
this one auction is in excess of $600. Between the two auctions, this bidder
saved several hundred dollars over new prices.

I know this will be a dead and forgotten subject by then, but his current
license expires in 2008. I bet he renews it.

Furthermore, if he's REALLY trying to make a statement, let's keep an eye
on QRZ. I say if he has a "point" to make, he writes "CANCEL" across the front
of it and sends it back to Gettysburg.

I say he DOESN'T do THAT.

That's the nice thing about an Amateur Radio license...even if it doesn't
fit your needs or interests "for now", you can keep it in your pocket and you
have it if you need/want it.

Some grandstand play about "I'm getting out of Ham Radio" is just

Sorry about that, Mike. It was a clear over-reaction to your three (3)

Well there you have it. The number one reason for leaving amateur
radio is probably death (SK for the pnone impaired). Or maybe it's a
lack of interest.

No nefarious conspiracy theories necessary.

I wonder what the other reasons for people leaving the ARS might be?

Output from the Yell Yell is typical of the kind of responses by
the jaded regulars in here, most of whom see some kind of
need to yell and yell. Yell Yell made it a CONSPIRACY!

Dwight wanted to sell some ham equipment. All he got in here
from most (possible exception of Mike Coslo) was a lot of
personal trashing commentary. Dumb. Doesn't reflect good on
"the service." :-(

I hope that Stewart gets some good prices on his used gear.

He said that here, too.

But people who make a point of announcing thier departure are seeking

Thump that chest!

'BYE and don't let the door . . .

Reduced to quoting Larry tRoll.

That one was around before you were.

Actually I'm glad you popped up Putzlet, I've been meaning to ask you
a question: How many contacts did you make on Field Day?

However many they were, Brian, they were more than he made from Somalia !

I wouldn't read more into his post than he wrote. The conspiracy
theorists probably think he had a "REAL underlying reason" to get into
the service as well. Pffft.

If this was "the service" you wouldn't anywhere in sight. Fortunately
for ham radio this not "the service".

Putz.

I hope that Stewart gets some good prices on his used gear.

I didn't make a point of "announcing" my departure, Steve. It was simply
mentioned in the messages about the auctions to explain the reason for the
sale of those items. When people see a lot of similar items being sold by an
individual, why is often the first question asked.

(eg: people who swallow a "handful" of
"pills" then call 9-1-1 to announce what
they have done...)

Well, since I swallowed "all" the "pills" (all my ham equipment is gone),
it's a little late to call 911 or anyone else. :-)

And, with that, I have really got to go. Take care.

Sure you did. It's right here.

It was simply
mentioned in the messages about the auctions to explain the reason for the
sale of those items. When people see a lot of similar items being sold by an
individual, why is often the first question asked.

And why would it be anyone's business? Just say "no longer need this item
for my current activities".

(eg: people who swallow a "handful" of
"pills" then call 9-1-1 to announce what
they have done...)

Well, since I swallowed "all" the "pills" (all my ham equipment is gone),
it's a little late to call 911 or anyone else.

I am sure the guy who bit over $400+ dollars for used equipment that he
could have gotten new for less is wondering what pills HE can swallow.

And, with that, I have really got to go.

Step lively.

Take care.

Always.

Sorry about that, Mike. It was a clear over-reaction to your three (3)
messages in this newsgroup about me spamming the newsgroups, mixed with a
throbing toothache and not enough sleep the night before because of it. My
decision to leave Amateur radio is based solely on personal reasons,
including a lack of interest at the moment, other distractions in my life,
and so on. As I said elsewhere, it has been fun, but it's time for me to
move on. Take care.

Well there you have it. The number one reason for leaving amateur
radio is probably death (SK for the pnone impaired). Or maybe it's a
lack of interest.

No nefarious conspiracy theories necessary.

I wonder what the other reasons for people leaving the ARS might be?

Why, are you looking for a way out too? I'll be glad to help.

People often want to know why a piece of equipment is being sold,
i.e., why don't you want it anymore?

So you gave a reason. But Nooooooo! There has to be an _underlying_
reason!!!

Hi, hi, hi.

Funny coming from a guy who was never in the service, but somehow
accumulated some "military experience" to brag about.

Were you in any of Steve's, "7 hostile actions?"

Hi, hi!

Fortunately for ham radio, we have actuarial tables.

I know the way. Too bad there are so many hangers on that only the
actuarial tables can deal with them.

I'll be glad to help.

Tell me about your real military experience again, oh serviceless one.

Hi,hi!

Before you start "laughing", Brain, at least Brian has acknowledged that
which he has and hasn't done. You continue to misrepresent yourself.

And there is no law, rule or regulation that REQUIRES his having been in
the service. Not since 1974.

Wonderful how the "Amateur's Code" works out with these PCTAs.
Anyone not thinking like they do gets the cutsey other-language

Maybe Kellie has an "underlying reason" too? :-)

Or...he's just "lying under it?"

No one, Hans.

I was just hoping I could irritate the be-jeebers out of you and elicit

It worked.

Aw go easy on him, he's just in his "grasp at any straw mode" again
Steve. He was a USAF shipping/receiveing clerk for cripes sake. How
far down the "service" chain is THAT?! But life demands that everybody
needs at least one brag point in life and his "clerical service" is as
close as he's gotten to having one. He sure as hell doesn't have any
in ham radio or in any other field that I know about. So ya handle his
predictable yelping from obscurity, which is typical of his types,
with common good humor. A pat on the head, "Good boy, good BOY
Putzlet!" "Now go fetch that box of file folders I need". The usual.

Yawn

And there is no law, rule or regulation that REQUIRES his having been in
