SECOND ANNUAL TEACHER'S MEETING

The first annual teacher's meeting for amateur radio in the classroom
was held on 12 July 2003 at the Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. It
was a huge success. The second annual teacher's meeting will be held
at the Holiday Inn in Augusta, Maine (Exit 31B from Route 95 coming
from south and Exit 31 from Route 95 coming from the north). You can
also fly into Augusta, Maine, and we will pick you up at the airport.
Another option is flying into Boston, Mass. or Manchester, N.H.
airports and renting a car. For Holiday Inn reservations for this
meeting, call 1 207 621 8674 and also register with the American
Amateur Radio Association by calling 1 800 262 9543.

Teachers using or ever having used amateur radio in the classroom with
any success are invited to be speakers. Those others who have ideas
for use in the classroom are also invited to speak. Call 1 207 495

Saturday, 10 July 2003. Guests should plan to come in as soon as
Wednesday for informal meetings and spending time at and on the lake

DONATED HAM RADIO AND/OR COMPUTER EQUIPMENT FROM THE IARN AMATEUR
RADIO PEACE CORPS FOUNDATION - SPONSORED BY AARA, THE AMERICAN AMATEUR

THE BASIC REQUITEMENTS A

1. You must be organized as a club which is affiliated with AARA, the
American Amateur Radio Association. To do this, send a self
addressed stamped envelope with enough return postage for five
ounces to AARA, P.O. Box 440, Belgrade Lakes, Maine 04918. You
will need at least 3 AARA life members in your club. (Student
life membership is $15.00 per person.)

2. You must have a letter from your school Principal (or other
appropriate authority) indicating that you have permission to put
a vertical antenna (attached to a vent pipe, for example) on the
roof of your school (or other building). Other roof antennas
might be an inverted "V" on Radio Shack TV mast sections
attached to something on the roof, or even a conventional dipole
(or more than one dipole cut for different bands such as 20 and 40
meters, etc., with a single common coax feed line).

3. You must have a designated and secure space or room for your
school radio club activities.

4. At least one member of your club must have a General Class or
higher Amateur Radio license.

5. You do not need to have a club station license, but this is
preferable.

6. ATTENTION VETERAN RADIO AMATEURS: Your donated Amateur Radio
equipment to IARN [a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization] for
refurbishing and placement in schools and youth clubs is tax
deductible at the fair market value as designated by you. Mail,
UPS, or drop off your old or unwanted ham, CB, and even old
computer equipment at: IARN, c/o AARA, the American Amateur Radio
Association, Point Road, Belgrade Lakes, Maine 04918 U.S.A.

8. Check in to the Classroom Nets Monday through Friday on 7.238 MHz.
between 7 AM and 8:30 AM and on 14.272 MHz. (plus or minus QRM)
between 9:30 AM and 12 Noon and also between 1:30 PM and 4 PM.
Tune around between 14.265 MHz. and 14.285 MHz. from 8:30 AM
to 6:00 PM, since the IARN 20 Meter Classroom Net is a frequency
agile group of "hands on" Radio Amateurs!






IARN EMERGENCY TRAFFIC ACTIVATION LEVELS

LEVEL I - Emergency and health and welfare traffic for the affected
area(s) is being E-MAILED to plus a 24 hour IARN
AMTOR mail box on 14.127 MHz. LSB, SEL call KMAN.

LEVEL II - Same as Level I plus live nets on 14.275 MHz. USB.
Also IARN HF bulletins are now on 14.272 MHz. USB; 3.977 MHz. LSB; and
3.890 MHz. AM. (Go to
www.K1MAN.com for further emergency network
information.

LEVEL III - Same as Level II plus deployment of volunteer radio
operators with radio equipment and portable generators to the affected
area(s) to hand carry all accumulated network traffic plus set up
amateur radio stations in public places and/or shelters to solicit
outgoing traffic. Radio jump team volunteer operators should pre-
register by calling IARN headquarters at 207 495 2215. See

Note: Radio amateurs and short wave listeners should monitor 14.272
MHz. USB; 3.977 MHz. LSB; and 3.890 MHz. AM. Call your local radio
and/or T.V. stations and tell them what you and amateur radio are

CORPS KIDS PROJECT. This nationwide and even world wide project will
systematically introduce Amateur Radio to minority kids world wide
for educational, motivational, and discipline learning purposes with
the intent of "Helping kids to make good career choices" according to
Mr. Palmer, a Radio Amateur from Dallas, Texas and former Engineering
Technician with the Heath Company in Benton Harbor, Michigan. The
first IARN KIDS PROJECT international conference will be held in
Belgrade Lakes, Maine this Summer. Mr. Palmer will appear as Glenn
Baxter's special guest in a weekly series about the KIDS PROJECT over
