Default New FCC Chairman - The devil or the deep blue sea as options

Devil or the Deep Blue Sea? The future for ham radio and radio technology
looks bleak with two non-technical attorneys being suggested as possibles to
replace the clueless non-technical attorney already in the top FCC position.

Expected to leave in the spring, after completing issues like local phone
competition rules. FCC faces possible rewrite of 1996 telecom act and
questions about continuing Powell's deregulation push.

Rebecca Klein, former chairwoman of the Texas Public Utility Commission

Michael Gallagher, top telecom official at Commerce

So this is what might replace Michael Powell:

Rebecca Klein, commissioner of the Texas Public Utilities Commission
Rebecca Klein was appointed on June 27, 2001 by Governor Rick Perry as a
Commissioner of the Texas Public Utility Commission. On May 17, 2002 she was
appointed Chairman of the Texas Public Utility Commission by Governor Perry.
Prior to her appointment as Commissioner, she was a consultant with KPMG
Consulting, heading the development of the company's Office of Government
and Industry Relations headquartered in the Washington, DC area.

Rebecca Klein graduated from Stanford University with a BA in Human Biology.
She received her Masters in National Security Studies at Georgetown
University, and earned her JD at St. Mary's University in San Antonio,
Texas.

OR

Michael D. Gallagher, nominated by President George W. Bush on October 14,
2003 to be Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and
Information and Administrator of the National Telecommunications and
Information Administration.

Michael Gallagher was vice president for state public policy at Verizon
Wireless in Bellevue, Washington. From 1998 to 2000, he was managing
director for government relations at AirTouch Communications, Inc., also in
Bellevue, Washington.

Michael Gallagher received his B.A. from the University of California at
Berkeley and his J.D. from the University of California in Los Angeles. He
is a member of the Washington State Bar.
