Two questions on the story:

1) Is it on the web anywhere, for those of us who don't subscribe?

2) Is there a byline (author's name) on the story?

My response:

Sir,

Page 109 of the December 27th issue of "TIME" made the statement
that "blogs" "...were a faintly embarrassing hobby on the order of
Ham Radio and stamp collecting".

As you read this, Amateur (Ham) Radio operators are providing
critical disaster relief communications in the Indian Ocean in the

wake
of the disasterous tsunami waves that wiped out tens-of-thousands of
lives.

To Time Magazine:

Rev Jim has gotten something right WRT amateur radio. He's tried, and
tried, and tried, over the past several years but to put it bluntly,
Rev Jim is a total eff-ing screwup.

May I refer Time Magazine to W5YI for sumptin close to the truth WRT
the amatuer radio service. Jim actually means well, but his ego is
outta conrol. tnx.

Amateur Radio remains one of this nation's critical disaster relief
assets. It is a critical tool for FEMA, The Red Cross, The Salvation
Army, and countless state and local governments. Amateur Radio
operators put in thousands of manhours in the wake of the Septermber
11th attacks, helping to fill in crucial communications gaps in New
York City.

Amateur Radio has been lauded in the Federal Register on numerous
occassions for contributions to the Department of State as it has

often
been the only link between disaster-struck outposts and the United
States.

The Armed Forces, under the auspcies of the Military Affiliate
Radio System, employs thousands of Amateur Radio volunteers to

provide
domestic and deployed health and welfare resources for our military
personnel.

The United States Coast Guard routinely depends on Amateurs to
provide crucial links between Search And Rescue facilities and ships

in
distress on the high seas.

Amateur Radio even plays a part in the space program as it is an
intergral part of the International Space Station. Thousands of
students around the world have been able to communicate with the

crews
of the ISS through a program called ARISS: Amateur Radio on the
International Space Station.

And, oh yes..we manage to have fun along the way!

An immediate apology is not only due, it's expected.

Respectfully yours,

Steven J Robeson, LPN
Amateur Radio Station K4YZ

Sumbuddy needs to apologize for Rev Jim's lack of reverendom. He's
what's wrong with amateur radio today.

Seems Time Magazine has a beef with Amateur Radio. This week's issue
(December 27) has an article on "blogs" on page 109. In the article
the following sentence will surely grab the attention of Ham Radio
operators and stamp collectors - "Before this year, blogs were a
curiosity, a cult phenomenon, a faintly embarrassing hobby on the
order of HAM RADIO and stamp collecting." Letters to the editor can
be sent to .

Let 'em have it, Folks!

Hmmmm, I wonder why they categorized it that way?

Dear Time Magazine:

Page 109 of the December 27th issue of "TIME" made the statement that
"blogs" "...were a faintly embarrassing hobby on the order of Ham Radio
and stamp collecting."

The shallow person who wrote that should learn something about the subjects
they are writing about. I would suggest that whoever was responsible for
that statement should be given a research-surfing assignment to find out
what "Ham Radio" is all about before they spout off.

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..................
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !!!

Hey have you been to any hamfests lately? (look around)
Been listening to 14.313 of late? (KJI from Indiana
is back on in the afternoon again, stirrin up things in the
truly unique way that only the 'kind jewish indian' can!)
How about 75 meters at night?

Hint: 14.313 is "re-starting again" folks!

I can name a few other freq's but U know them already.

"..faintly embarassing" they say? BOY OH BOY DID THEY
EVER GET THAT NAIL NAILED IN STRAIGHT AN
TIGHT INO THE WALL JOIST ! I don't admit to anyone
that I have a ham license, even some family.

As for stamp collecting, never been to one of those
shows, but if those stamp guys are as bung-holeo-retentive
as are the guys I've seen at train shows, I can understand 100%.

Now with all that said, I got me a Zip-Zap for X-mas.
Now leave me be whilst I torment the cat... ; )
