(begin quote) Today's edition of the UK Times newspaper has the following heading on page 11: A race to the wire as old hand at Morse code beats txt msgrs An Australian museum set up a race between CW operators and teenage text messagers. Message (randomly selected) Hey, girlfriend, you can text all your pals to tell them where you are going and what you are wearing. CW Transmitting - Gordon Hill aged 93. Receiving - Jack Gibson aged 82. No abbreviations used. Text Sent by - Brittany Devlin aged 13 - using text slang. Also three other teenagers. Miss Devlin had two years of texting experience. Using text message shorthand. Timed Results CW - 90 seconds to a correct written message. TEXT - 108 seconds to a correct message. In three further contests with three further teenagers CW was the winner.
