If they're to lazy to learn CW for good radio skills, they might be too
lazy to use toilet paper for good hygiene.

Well SC, just open the stall next time you're on duty at your job of
restroom attendant at the hamfest. You'll have your answer. And I ain't
tippin you for that damn "Brut" cologne you hawk!

SC has been bragging for quite some time now about No-Coders - but has "yet"
to show where "he" has ever been licensed as a ham at all let alone "with"
code. I don't care to give my call here - but have in the past and will
again if asked. It doesn't prove a thing one way or another. My call -
though I'm an extra - happens to be my old KA Novice Call sign. Been an
extra quite a while. Went from Novice - Technician (80s) - Advanced - Extra.

It is amazing you guys keep him in entertainment by acknowledging his
ridiculous remarks. GET A LIFE - SC -whether we like it or not - CODE IS
GONE. You're beating a horse that has been dead quite a while. You've been
on this stupid kick for about 5 months now. Don't you have anything better
to do?

I see there will always be those people that can predict the future. The No
Code is just going to bring in Bank Robbers, Rapist, and thieves, Murder's.
Wife beater's, And the MOB.
Come on grow up children. You learned the Code and that's just Great, but do
you really really have to pick on those that didn't have too..... like they
should be lower than life and feel dirtier then a used pair of underwear.
You are not showing your Intelligent as little people. When you could be
there to help them feel like they had joined up with a great bunch of
people. What are you a big bunch of Whiners. Your sounding more like your
mad you had to learn it,and your pi$$ed off that they didn't. You don't own
the Hobby of Ham Radio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your suppose to be the best part Of
it. Not the worst part... Get a life your acting like it will be the end of
the world.
Get involved in a real cause ,like people trying to take away your right's.
Like the right to bear Arm's, and the right to live in a good and just
community. And not one riddled with crime, and Murder. These are just good
people wanting to talk on the Ham Band's. Not everybody wants to be a
Radio operator. The people that will come into Ham Radio will be people that
enjoy talking on the Radio, and if they don't they'll leave and go on to
newer and different thing's... Your just trying to be a group of elitist...
You don't OWN HAM RADIO PERIOD!!!!!!! Get over it Grow up and get a

Hey, a couple years back I had a QSO with a guy using a 49 MHz
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle walkie talkie, recrystalled for 6M.
He was getting out pretty well too.

Somewhere in my papers - I have an article that came out specifically
dealing with taking a "Space Patrol" type walkie talkie and placing it on "6
meters" as a QRP rig. I bought a pair to do it - and things got hectic. That
became a back burner project. I still have the walkie talkies but have to
dig out the paperwork.

Cecil,

Code "isn't" dead "completely", I think we all know that. I believe I am
safe in saying that what this guy was getting to was - SC's vigilance to
keep insulting No Code Hams OR Ham want to bes. There really IS no reason to
keep that up. There is nothing we can do to bring it back - the decision has
been made - whether we like it or not. Insults can only help "kill" the
hobby.

I've said it before, I'll say it again - if you like it - USE IT. If not -
so what!

The horse has been beaten to death - past death, now into the dust. Give it
a break. I've blocked all that have supported "his" stupid remarks and
argument. It has been going on for at least 6 months. IT IS OVER!

It shouldn't be that big a deal.. I know a lot of the newer ones are basically
one IC with a crystal for the transmitter and an RC tank for the receive, so
you'd have only two things to change.

"Space Patrol" looks good on a QSL card equipment line, but not as good
as "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."

There was a group of us back in Boston in the late 80s doing that a
lot ... we had a big bin of the xtals, and were tuning them up for a
local 6m repeater.

I also had a simplex pair that I used to build a fun 2400 bps packet
rig.

Imminently hackable, and amazingly cheap.

Good memories.

Computer software consists of only two components: ones and
zeros, in roughly equal proportions. All that is required is to
sort them into the correct order.

Yeah - the biggest deal of it was changing the crystal. I think the coils
and so on - were pretty much there within reason to oscillate. Been a while
since I read the article though.

This brings to mind... the military has lots of those horrible little
AN/PRT-4A transmitters selling dirt cheap on the surplus market. They
are kind of neat because they have a 455 KHz oscillator to shift the
frequency of the crystal up, allowing you to use the same crystal for
the transmitter as you did for the (seperate) receiver.

NOBODY has documentation on these things. The LOGSA database has them
still listed as unavailable except within the military. Does anyone have
a schematic on these?

As I recall, these were issued in Vietnam for communication within units,
but were mostly famous for drawing fire with their large antennae and
for poor signal quality.
