Stock Replacement Antenna for Pro-2006
Anybody know where I can order a replacement stock antenna? Also,
I've been thinking of purchasing an outside wide band antenna to use for my radio. Can somebody suggest one that is not too large and can be mounted outside my window? Thanks, Joe |

Lots of ham radio stores have them, I think that even radio shack offers one. Tim |

Tim Sorry I missed the original post, but: http://support.radioshack.com/suppor...oc30/30383.htm "To order parts call 1-800-843-7422 or visit your local RadioShack store." The catalog number and NP part number for the antenna are listed in the above-linked document. FWIW, I tend to agree with Tim about the discone. You can get pretty broadbanded results with a log-periodic too, but they're larger than the discone, and are directional, thus require additional hardware to be able to rotate them (a rotator and control box). Unless you have a situation where you need to be able to point a directional antenna towards a signal source in order to optimize reception, an omnidirectional antenna such as a discone is the way to go, and the discone is broadbanded as heck - I've seen receive coverage specs of 26 MHz to well above 1000 MHz (1.0 GHz) on some models. They don't give you any gain but they're a lot of bang for the buck in terms of frequency coverage. An added bonus is that most discones can be used to transmit on several of the VHF/UHF ham bands if you ever decide to go ahead and get a ham ticket. The last one that I had was good for transmitting on 6m and 2m as well as the 220 MHz and 440 MHz bands, received from 28 to 1200 MHz, and withstood numerous Buffalo, New York winters replete with snow, ice, and high winds. As is the case on receive, they don't give you any gain when used as a transmitting antenna, but they cover a lot of territory frequency-wise; if you want to be able to do a lot with just one omnidirectional antenna it's tough to beat the discone.
