Default another dumb antenna question

I've been playing with my AR8200(2) scanner again and I have it
connected to an SA7000 antenna
http://www.aoruk.com/direct/sa7000.htm
mounted outside the house. It's not as high as should be but I can't
do anything about that at the moment.
I've been thinking of getting either a high-end discone or a scantenna
aerial to go in the same location but I don't know if the change will
be worth the money. I'm very much a newbie at scanning so I'm not sure
what to do. The SA7000 was pricey and I'm assuming it might be hard to
improve on. Any opinions?

ok, if you based your opinion on the drawing you saw at aoruk.com then
that's understandable. But the main whip is 1.8m in length.
Here's a pic of the real thing.

do you still think a discone would be better?

if you really need good hf then a discone might not be as good
but if you want better allround i'd get a royal discone every time.

now, if you are looking to maybe become a ham later or you solely listen to
vhf/uhf stuff
then i'd go for a 5/8 on 5/8 dualband vertical.
they come in varying sizes [the bigger the better of course!]
but will always out perform a discone.

now ok, a royal will allow you to tx as well where the dualband does

so its upto you
