another dumb antenna question
I've been playing with my AR8200(2) scanner again and I have it
connected to an SA7000 antenna http://www.aoruk.com/direct/sa7000.htm mounted outside the house. It's not as high as should be but I can't do anything about that at the moment. I've been thinking of getting either a high-end discone or a scantenna aerial to go in the same location but I don't know if the change will be worth the money. I'm very much a newbie at scanning so I'm not sure what to do. The SA7000 was pricey and I'm assuming it might be hard to improve on. Any opinions? |

But the main whip is 1.8m in length. Here's a pic of the real thing. http://www.zen73857.zen.co.uk/sa7000/ http://www.zen73857.zen.co.uk/sa7000/house3.jpg do you still think a discone would be better? |

if you really need good hf then a discone might not be as good
but if you want better allround i'd get a royal discone every time. now, if you are looking to maybe become a ham later or you solely listen to vhf/uhf stuff then i'd go for a 5/8 on 5/8 dualband vertical. they come in varying sizes [the bigger the better of course!] but will always out perform a discone. now ok, a royal will allow you to tx as well where the dualband does so its upto you mike wrote in message ...
