They have Yaesu VR-500-PKG w/ NI-Cad Battery & Wall charger
at HRO for $179.95. I was thinking about getting this
continuous coverage receiver or the ICOM R5, demo model, for
$149.95 at HRO. The VR-500 has more modes than the R5, but
the R5 is built for the outdoors. I like carry a receiver
while I'm out doing foot patrols. I currently own a BC-246,
but the local public safety went digital and I can't afford
a $500 radio at this time. I can still monitor another
county public safety near by, but only with mag-mount
scanner antenna from Radio Shack. That not very portable,
but I don't walk that much, I guess. I like to listen to
SW, but that only really comes in at night.
