No it is not alive and well - it is sick and getting worse...

You have one set of newbies on the 2 meters, acting like they are HF operators on a linked repeater system - just because they can talk to someone from somewhere else.

You also have the newbies that wants to use Echolink and their telephones - because they do not want to spend money on transceivers and antenna's...

Then you have the old LIDS that just wants to check in one nets - because they would probably have a heart attack if they actually had to call CQ and you have people who's dial has been stuck in one place for so long - they get upset when someone is on their favorite frequency and even the net control does not recognise a call sign that is not on their buddy list.

They are so worried about running a net with their buddy club that they don't realize that some day they are all going to be dead and no one is going to want to take it over - because they were excluded when MR X ran the net.

The best thing the FCC could do would be to cancel all the licenses and make everyone reapply and retest and only allow the people who can pass the test to operate.
Make the tests harder and do not publish the questions and answer and do not make them multiple guess.
