Default trying to recieve signal thru dirt

there is a ham repeater i would like to hear, but i am stuck in a shallow
valley and do not think i can rig an antenna high enough to overcome it. any
suggestions?

Mount the scanner on a kite and use external speaker wires as the control
string. This technique will overcome problems of loss on a long feed line. A
balloon will work too.

Try a beam. If necessary point it at large metal obects and hope for
reflections. Best signal may NOT be on a direct line to the repeater.

geez i think i'll need a topo map to see if i can bounce it off the metal
shed that looks like it might line up for bounce.

but even if, i should have gotten something, 90% static but more that dead
silence. squelch was off, scanner was on

You might try moving the radio or antenna just a foot or two ... might make all
the difference. I have to do that when picking up WTKM 104.9 FM from here ...
some 35 miles distant ... moving the radio 6 inches can make or break the
signal.

well, i ran some magnet wire up to the second floor to see if there was any
improvement. stilll nothing but background noise.

upgrading tho to a pro-91, then i'll just drive to the top og the hill
