Default Looking to buy a over the counter scanner I can mod, any suggestions?

I currently have just a Uniden 60xlt-1, which only covers up to
512Mhz, which is crap around my neighborhood. I'm lucky to pick up
2 voice signals, so, I'm very interested in purchasing another
scanner, one with at least 900Mhz, and one I can mod. Any
suggestions?

I didn't ask for anything of the celluar nature, just a good radio
I can purchase here, in my little red neck town, that I can mod. I
am a tweak freak you see? You should check out my xbox hobby
sometime,...
