Looking to buy a over the counter scanner I can mod, any suggestions?

I currently have just a Uniden 60xlt-1, which only covers up to
512Mhz, which is crap around my neighborhood. I'm lucky to pick up
2 voice signals, so, I'm very interested in purchasing another
scanner, one with at least 900Mhz, and one I can mod. Any
suggestions?
