I have a pre-ban unit from 1994, so I don't have your problem, but I
tried the keypad mods once just to see what would happen.

You press #9, and #2 simultaneously first, and then another key (like
MANUAL) at random.

One day I was messing around with different combinations and put the
unit down to answer a phone call. When I came back, I was astonished
to find it scanning from 0.0 in the LED.

It had made it up to 2.5 by the time I pressed the HOLD key to save
it, but doing so reset the memory.

I tried to duplicate my actions since, but who knows what I did to
clear the frequency programming like that, but at least I know it's
possible via keypad.

IS there a date code on 'em somewhere? Mine needs some mods too. Anybody
have any hints?
