Default Yupiteuru 9000 Repair

I have a Yupiteru 9000 that has a problem with the squelch cutting out too
early. I used to be able to turn the dial from all the way to the left
and then to about the 12 oclock position before the squelch would cut out,
but now, if I turn all the way to the left and then turn just a little bit
to the right, the squelch cuts out immediately. I can deal with it, but
it seems like it could be fixed.

Also, if it's plugged in to the wall and you bump the scanner, the power
cuts off. Tried a different power supply and still does it. Never cuts
off when it's running on just batteries.

Any ideas would be appreciated...

i would say you have a couple of joints that by wear & tear & machanical
movement have failed.
sadly, a lot of the 'bits' to the outside world like the controls & power
plug have no strain relief on the PCB, the solder joint also hold them
machanically.
so over time they fail due to movement.

if you can solder, it's an easy job just to resolder them with fresh solder
where there pieces connect on the circuit board.

Just get a external battery charger. Look for a rapid charger and recharge the
AA cells out side the 9000 and us tape to hold the battery compartment door
closed on the radio. Because the door may become loose after switching the
batteries out to recharge them every day or two. Have you upgraded to NiMH
AA cells yet? The NiMH batteries last 1/3 longer than NiCads.
