Default scanner car mounting help

I have a Pro95 scanner and would like to assemble a easy mount in my
s10 pickup that can hold the scanner and allow me to connect external
power and antenna. I have the antenna already mounted. I need some
kind of holder or pedastol to set the scanner on but still needs to
easily removed etc. Right now it just slides around on the seats

Not sure if there are any commercial mounts available or not, but you may
want to look at some of the older (i.e. bulkier) mobile phone brackets that
were designed to hold multiple types of mobile phones. Terminate your cable
for the external antenna with whatever connection the 95 uses (guessing BNC)
and plug it into the scanner and do the same with the power plug - either
run it from the ciggy lighter socket or direct from the fuse block (probably
better off using the accessories rather than direct from the car battery).
Not sure how much damage you want to cause with the fixing of the bracket to
the dash, but you could either screw it in or use some double sided tape for
a less destructive install. Bit of a dick around having to plug in the
antenna and the power every time you put it into the car though - maybe you
might want to permantly install a mobile scanner in the car and use the
handheld for when you are out of the car?

No need to make it any more diffislut that it has to be,

Just use a generic cell phone holder. Mount the thing anywhere you
need to in the cab. Some even clip to the air vents.

Run your cables under the dash so that they are out of the way of the
foot pedals (be safe out there) and you're all set.

Cellphone air-vent mount works great.

Keeps it at eye level, and you run the power from the cig lighter, and
an outside antenna.

Been using it for at least a year with great success.

$9 at Target.

Depending on the vehicle, I might be able to get the cost of your mounting
bracket down to a coat-hanger.

I bent a hanger into a "U" shape, the bottom of the "U" being just slightly
wider than the width of the belt-clip on the back of the scanner. The ends
of the "U" are measured to fit into one of the air vents on the dashboard.
When the proper measurement is known so as to hold the radio against the
dashboard snuggly, a tight hook is bent into each end of the "U," in order
to be able to slide it through the vent fins and catch behind a selected
fin. The radio and the custom "mounting bracket" can now be installed and
removed quickly and with little fuss.

The type of vehicle is important in that the vent needs to be facing the
driver/passengers. The vent also has to be capable of being closed off so
that the radio doesn't overheat during the winter or have problems with the
air conditioning in the warmer months..

I found that the vent on the driver's right side is the best as a radio
there usually doesn't block the view of the gauges nor does it get in the
way of the AM/FM/etc. radio in the dashboard. If you are stuck with only
being able to use the rubber flex antenna, mount the scanner on a vent fin
that allows the antenna to be above the dashboard heighth. The windshield
glass and/or open side windows allow for just a little more signal to hit
the antenna than it would get from being enclosed by all of the metal below
dashboard heighth. The scanner at this heighth is also easy to have its
display read without taking your eyes very far off of the road if you're
driving.

I've used my Pro95 in several cars in this fashion. The radio is light
enough that I have never damaged a vent with it.

You know, I keep reading about the whole vent mounting thing, and it just
doesn't seem logical to me. First, if you ever run air through the vents,
you're going to get that hot or cold air blowing directly onto the scanner;
not a good idea in my book. Second, those fins on the air vents are made of
REALLY cheap and THIN plastic. The first good bump or pot-hole would most
likely pull the vent right out of the dash, if not at the very least break
off whatever fin(s) the thing is attached to. Personally, I'd never attach
anything to an air vent. The things break on their own too easily as it is,
without adding to the problem...

Radio Shack sells a mount that has a suction cup for the windshield and an
adjustable grip for whatever you put in it.
It comes in 2 different sizes, and I have used it with my cell phone, PRO-92
and PRO-96. It is $30 here in N.H.
