The Bc246T seems to show simular behaviour, specially the freq.counter trick
also works with Bc246T.

RatShack sale of the Pro-83. I see there all over Ebay now, doh! So, is
this
scanner worth buying? I already have several base and HH scanners. I was
mostly interested in the Signal Stalker and NOAA features.

Well, NOAA weather is just your basic weather stuff. Basically a "service
search" with weather alert. Doesn't have S.A.M.E. alert, so it's not really
anything special...

About the only selling point the scanner has is the Signal Stalker feature.
I do like the feature. Receives quite well, even from a good distance away.
Distance depends on the transmitted signal's strength of course. As a
example, I can detect the local PD repeater broadcasts with the S.S. at a
distance of well over 3 miles away from the tower. If I recall correctly,
they transmit at about 50-watts. On the other hand, Taco Bell drive through
(tested just for contrast purposes,) I had to be within 20- to 25-feet of
order box. Of course, they only transmit in the milliwatts, so that's
expected...

Oh, and if you are prone to overload by pagers, you will have to spend a few
minutes of your time locking them out as they pop up. Doesn't matter where
I am around here, the unit constantly picked up those damn pagers in the
S.S. mode! Once I got them locked out, however, the S.S. feature works
flawlessly...

My opinion. Well worth the $60 price tag, and not a bad buy at the $120
price tag.

Tons of good info there about everything. Typing a username and password is
too complicated for you?

I do like that about it, however I don't like the way they are set up. The
layout sucks, among other things. My biggest problem is those damn
advertisements that pop up when your trying to read a posted message. Click
on the message and BOOM, there's this ad staring you in the face. Ooooohhh,
"click here to continue to your selected message," or whatever, crap...
Just a pain to navigate... Every time I were to log onto a group, the
messages were all goofy, so you have to click the sort by Thread button;
EVERY TIME! Why isn't there an option to select that as the default viewing
mode?

And I'm certainly not interested in their email based viewing and posting.
Tried that once... Never again...

If it wasn't for the junk advertising, the clunky layout, and lousy
navigation, it wouldn't be too bad of a place. I'll admit, I did give it a
go for a while, but just got disgusted by the whole thing after a short time
and gave up on it. Generally someone that reads over there will contribute
pertinent information from a Yahoo Group, in a posting here.

If you see a BIN for $90 - grab it. Those seem to go fast. You might get
lucky with a low starting auction and get it a buck or two under $90.

I must say that I completely enjoy mine. It's only used in stalker mode.
That feature alone is worth the $60 I paid and then some.

I'll give you $75 for yours. :-)

I wouldn't give ya $90 for it either.

But that's only because I'm cheap.
