I tried linux but my limited experience with it was that it was less robust than windows --- in terms of withstanding power outages and improper shutdowns, anyway. Every time the power went unexpectedly the windoze boxes rebooted ok but the linux ones needed re-installing, consistently. If you want to play with linux but don want all the hassles of having to have it installed on your hard drive, get hold of one of the free bootable Linux CD Roms that come with numerous computer magazines. That way you can play with it without having to alter your system, and when you're finished playing you just reboot back into Windows. I have five different versions of Linux that I can do this with, but after 'evaluating' them for most of last year, not one of them has 'done enough' to make me drop Windows as My OS of choice. They're neither better, than, more secure than, or easier to use than Windows.... They're just another OS that Can be an alternative to Windows for those that want an alternative. The only thing worse than the millions of Windows user that are unaware of the need to protect their computers from attack on the internet, are the millions of Linux users that believe they're imune from attack on the internet because they're running Linux..... -- Replace the obvious with paradise.net to email me Found Images http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/~mlvburke |
