Pro-95 97 blues (long)
Damn what a day! I decided to get another scanner as it comes in so handy at
work I wanted an extra in case one dies. Looked at Ebay for a while, used 95's were going for too close to the cost new. I had meant to buy another 95 when they were closing them out, never got around to it, you know how that goes. Anyway finally went to RS today bought a 97. It was nice as it's noticeably smaller than the 95. Tried to program it and problems. It's almost the same as the 95. Programmed the city, put it in closed mode and programmed the police talk groups. It would keep stopping on the control channel, and would pick up all the talk groups, not just the ones I wanted as is supposed to happen in closed mode. Checked everything according to instructions, cleared them all, re did it again carefully following the instructions, same results. It's like it just will not trunk, even though it says I am programming it in MOT mode which is what they use here. It also was not showing the talk groups when it would receive. Finally gave up took it all back to the shack. As expected no one there knew anything about scanners, they took my word for it that something was wrong, started to get me another one when I noticed they had a 95 in the case marked "clearance". I said hey just give me that. It was $80 cheaper, I thought great. Got it home, Noticed 2 stickers on it saying it had a premium (or something like that) warranty as it as a return that had been factory serviced. I thought "oh oh". It programs fine and trunks, BUT reception is ****. I have a RS 800 Mghz. antenna on my old one, tried switching them, still the same, old one sounds great, new one like ****. Finally took it back with the old one that works. Sales guy started to try to tell me "maybe it's not the scanner". I stopped him right there said I figured you would think that, I brought a working one if you want to hear the difference. They said no. Wanted to give me another 97 as the 95 was the last one they had, I declined. I'm a little gun shy now. So has anyone had any trouble with the new 97's? Think maybe I'll just buy a Uniden on line somewhere. What a frustrating day!! G -- Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it. |

The PRO-97 is an excellent scanner! Some systems require you to skip the
first channel when programming. Possible? Bill Crocker "Alex Clayton" wrote in message k.net... Damn what a day! We use the Mot.Type II here. My 95 works fantastic, and the instructions for the 97 were almost identical. The only difference I could see was a slight difference in things like to change mode, it was a different button and such. I did not read anything about skipping a channel, and I did try to very carefully follow the instructions step by step, twice, and got the same results twice. That's why I was wondering if it was something I was doing wrong. I remember well a couple years ago when the city switched over to trunked here, I already had my 95, and it took some frustrating trial and error trying to get it to work. The manual was not real easy to understand, but of course it's easy now. It would of course have helped if the "staff" there at the shack had any idea what they were doing, but alas none of them had a clue how these work. I have been very happy with my 95, just wanted an extra on hand because I have come to rely on these things at the one job. It was worth it too me to have an extra around. The 95 they exchanged it for programmed fine, it just did not work well at all at least compared to my old 95. I suppose if I did not already have the other 95 I might have not known anything was wrong for a while. -- Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it. |
