Anyone seen such a thing? I'm hoping the standard Uniden clip works for the PRO-94, because I just went on the Web site and ordered one for about $8 total, including shipping and handling. I guess I'll know if the Uniden clip works in a few days. |

Nope, searched high and low, and I too feel the RS belt clips are all too cheap, and a have a "toy" feel to them. Silly.. for a precision instrument to be dangling on your belt like that. (especially if you're in an 'active' line of work, ie- scrambling about on foot at response scenes, etc..) Anyway, I came up with a cool solution for the PRO-95. By the way, I own the PRO-95, and the PRO-97. Both EXCELLENT radios. However, the PRO-95 has more of a "rugged" outdoorsy feel to it.. with it's heft, and all- black casing. It's also the size and shape of a professional 2-way radio, (ala Motorola HT-1000, etc). So, after struggling with a solution, I had to make my own, to bring it up to par for the reliability I demand when outdoors. Here's what I came up with... (warning: it's going to cost you some bread if you can't find an old motorola clip laying around... you may just have to by one.. but it requires destroying it.. you'll see.) I can't upload images to this newsgroup, so here's the link to what I did: http://www.hogger.com/scanner/ I hope this helps. -Hogger Bo Williams writes: Anyone seen such a thing? Check out Scannermaster.com. They sell cases for Pro-95 that are very sturdy
with an easy-twist release bracket for the Pro-95 case. http://www.scannermaster.com/store/01-580852.html On Fri, 26 Aug 2005 15:31:48 -0500, Al Bell wrote: Nope, searched high and low, and I too feel the RS belt clips are all too cheap, and a have a "toy" feel to them. I've used the clip perhaps a dozen times in a couple of years of owning the radio, and it's about to break--right at the topmost row of molded dimples. Still in one piece for now, but definitely not trustworthy. I love this radio and definitely would have paid $5 or $10 more for it to have included a real belt clip. [...] I can't upload images to this newsgroup, so here's the link to what I did: http://www.hogger.com/scanner/ I hope this helps. I appreciate that and will keep it in my back pocket if I can't find another solution. Thing is, I've got a super leather cover for it already that I really like. However, you have given me the idea of cannibalizing a two-piece clip of some kind, which I hadn't thought of before. Then just the mount would have to fit the holes in the radio, which sounds rather easier than trying to force a non-standard standalone clip onto it. Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it. -- Bo Williams - http://hiwaay.net/~williams/ |

I've got the leather part down already, but as I said in another post I hadn't thought of adapting a two-piece clip to the radio. I'll have to mull that a bit, but I'm liking it on initial read. wrotF: Anyone seen such a thing? You could probably adapt the clip from a Radio Shack HTX-202 or 404. They are nothing fancy, just a 1.75" wide by 3.75" long piece of thin spring steel. You'd probably break the radio before the clip. They were still available from the Shack last year. |

LoL! No, actually I am a utility worker by trade, and part time
photographer! I use my scanner for both of those duties. But yeah, it get's beat up a bit. The truth is, the PRO-97 is a bit too "nice" to have dangling from your belt exposed. That silver finish scratches much easier... so I prefer to use the PRO-95 outdoors and at work. I hope the pictures helped give some other guys ideas on a durable clip. The PRO-95's super durable case, and all-black color, makes it a good candidate for this modification, as it looks really pro hanging from your belt, police style." Please tell me you're actually a cop and not one of those freaks driving around pulling people over in an ex-cruiser......... |
