Default Opinions on PRO-2051?

Any opinions/comments on the PRO-2051 from Radio Shack?
Seen here...
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...032052.2032072

Looking to get started with a scanner and thought this one would be
good to start with.
How does it compare to the handeld PRO-97? found here ...

Any opinions on either of these?

Thanks,
Nickolas

Currently, there is a firmware issue with the PRO-2051, that prevents it
from interfacing with software. Also it does not have any alpha-tags (if
that is important to you), and after re-banding is in effect, it won't work
properly in some of the 800MHz trunked systems.

If you're looking for a base/mobile equivalent of the PRO-97, check out the
PRO-2055. However, both the PRO-97, and PRO-2055 may have issues after
re-banding as well.

It depends on where you live, and what frequencies are currently being used
in your area. From what I understand, they have already run into
significant problems, which may cause a delay in the original plans.

Here are a couple links to keep tabs on the situation:

http://www.wpascanner.com/reband/reband.htm

I wouldn't let it stop me from buying a scanner today. In the event that it
is affected by re-banding, it can always be used for everything else it
covers.
