Default Streaming internet Scanner Audio - How?

I would like to set up at my house a scanner receiver so that my
elderly dad can listen via internet (just like all the other streaming
scanner audio sites) to the broadcasts.

Could someone please advise what equipment I need to do this and how?
I have the scanner receiver, the Windows XP home computer, and
broadband connection.

Thanks alot!

Fairly simple - in addition to your computer and scanner, an audio
connecting lead from scanner to audio (line) input on your computer.

A program to do the streaming can be found at :-

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...r/default.aspx

A little bit of head scratching to get it set up, may help to read
instructions here.

If you use a router to connect to the interweb, you may have to open a
port to allow the streaming audio, IP stream through. You get to set
which port to use in the encoder. You may also have to let your firewall
know what's going on here too.

Once set up, the audio stream can be listened to with Windows Media
Player. Go to - Sync File Open URL. The URL will be :-

http://your_IP_address:Your_port_number.

note, there is a full colon - : - between your IP address, and the port
you are using for streaming.

If you have more than one computer set up as a local LAN, you can check
that it is working locally before committing to the net. If you do this,
you will no doubt notice maybe a one or so second delay in the audio
coming out of the 'decoding' computer.

have fun.

good luck with streaming but if it turns out to be too difficult another option might be to record the scanning you do with
scanrec:
http://www.davee.com/scanrec/
and then convert your recordings to mp3 and upload them to a site where your Dad can download them and play them at his liesure.
One of the good things about scanrec is it can cut out all the silence/low noise and only record proper signals, thus your Dad
wouldn't have to listen to any long periods of silence.

this is really good info (thanks), but I've run into a problem and you may know the answer.
I've got several computers here at home on a network and I've managed to get a stream going from one computer (using WME9) and I'm
picking it up in WMP9 on another, problem is for a computer outside my LAN (ie a computer on the other side of my router) the IP
addresses I'm using won't work because I'm behind a router. The IP address on the PC streaming out (eg xx.xx.xx.xx) is behind
another IP address (yy.yy.yy.yy) which is my router on the internet.
How do I configure the address for someone outside to get my stream?

If you can't figure it out from there, post the question (including
the make and model of router(s) and modem, operating system, version
and service pack if any, and the port number you have to forward) at

yes thanks very much, I figured it out and now I've got the program streaming out beyond the router.
