camping out on WWVA doorstep a bad idea?

My present orders call for an overnight stay in Washington, Pa which is
about 20-30miles from WWVA. WWVA is 50Kw so I am rethinking that
waypoint. Primary objective for this mission is to log as many 1kw and
below mom & pop AM radio stations across this great nation of ours.
Should I take a more southerly route thru Virginia, Kentucky and
Tennessee for better AM DX operations?
