I figured at least $4500... probably more. Guess we'll have to wait a bit longer
to find out.

You will probably be able to get a 'fixer upper' from RadioMart for only
$4000

HI from Ken in the UK,

I was at a radio show here in the UK about two weeks ago and this new
receiver was on display.
The spec is equal to the 'ICOM-7800' regards 'IP2' and 'IP3' on the HF
frequencies, in fact it's meant to be the companion RX for the '7800'.
The price quoted for the UK is............£7.000.00 ( around about
$12,000.00 US ).
It will sell and sell very well, but not to us poor SWL's and Amateurs I'm
afraid.

The IC-7800 lists here (per Universal Radio) at $13,466.65 and sells for $10,
599.99. so perhaps the R9500 might go for $10,000 or less.

If the 7800 has a main receiver and a sub-receiver with external
speaker connectors for each, I wonder why a companion receiver would
be needed, especially one with a different range of frequencies.

What market is Icom trying to reach? Government? Certainly not us poor
hobbyists. With HF playing a lesser role in utes and international
broadcasting, it's interesting to see a new really high-end rig like
this appear.
