Talk about the arrogance of these people. Killing thousands of Whales
and Dolphins each year with their sonar just isn't enough....

"The remediation system aims to protect hundreds of low earth-orbiting
satellites from having their onboard electronics ruined by charged particles
in unusually intense radiation belts "pumped up" by high-altitude nuclear
explosions or powerful solar storms"

As if nukes or powerful solar storms are a good thing for shortwave.
Allah must of had a hangover when he gave these people a brain.

It seems to totally exclude the possibility that this particle belt
they wish to diminish on an ad-hoc basis also contributes to protection
of life on earth from the hazards of extraterrestrial radiation, which
are considerable.

When it comes to solar storms, yes. These happen frequently enough
(and naturally enough) to be considered to be a constant source of
concern for anyone interested in satellites. You throw antidotes at
this cosmic disease often enough and you may find the cure for one
problem makes the ailment worse. Obviously, if you can protect vital
equipment from a nuclear war, by all means do it. To constantly
disrupt a natural protection from a potential hazard, even to protect
pieces of machinery, should require a bit more thinking through.

My question, perhaps a stupid one, but one that begs the asking nonetheless
would be:

If there is so much disruption to satellites from nuclear bombs, is there
going to be anyone around to use them (or care whether they are there or
not)?

acording various projections in the 1980's when I working for my Uncle
Sam in that feild more than 120 million amercians were expected to
survive a nuclear war of the Soveit Union, then depending oin part on
wether comincation (and other services could be kept working that
population may may only slightly or dramitc to 100 million or 20
million (the level subsistance ag could sustatian) so if you can keep
sat and other com links up ayou have the abilty to try to re knit
equipemtn with spare part know where esentcail drugg sould be deployed
and have a chance ( althought it looked pretty grim in those days) aof
sustaining much of the rest of the popualtion of the USA. Today only
the USA (and maybe the PRC have a real arsenal of worakbale nukes and
therefore far more amercians would be killed in any exchange (since I
dod assume if we launch out weapons it will at a non us target) it also
seems unlikely in any exchange today that the US would dump the rack
and matintining control of the nukes we have not launched would be
crtical use for our sats

irnoicaly the end of the cold has made Nuclear war seem More likely to
many folks becuase it would be a smaller war

hope that will do as an answer

That is a very pretty point that you've raised. Want the answer ??? It
doesn't matter what the practical reality is. The ones with all the
resources here that are calling the shots are "LORD HIGH". According to
their acquired self delusions, they'll just walk between the radiation
particles while the rest of us plebeians drop dead slowly.

Whine, whine, whine. That's all you Canucks are capable of these days.

Stuff some poutine in it, and then blow it out your ass, boy.

P.S. Please try to find yourself a radio that is capable of pulling in more than
the rubbish you're obviously getting from CBC.

I don't care what you do in Michigan. If spraying food out of your
rectum gives you kicks, fine....just don't expect decent people to
follow your example, pervert.

Why don't you just go and bomb the hell out of another country with
brown skinned people in it? Or are you too busy writing the defence
argument for yet another GOP pervert?

Mike,

The U.S. has unilaterally claimed space, and presumably the entire universe for
its own purposes. Furthermore, the U.S. reserved the "right" to deny any other
country it chooses the right to utiliize space for any reason. Of course, the
U.S. has already done this on planet earth. See:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/space/arti...925757,00.html

and

http://www.ostp.gov/html/US National Space Policy.pdf

_Most_ people here are too dim-witted to see the obvious problem with this. They
see you and I as the problems. Unfortunately, they are the ignorant ones--so
easily manipulated by the U.S. government. Like taking candy from a baby.
