I'm going by the scenes in the beginning of the show of a distant mushroom on the horizon So you did not see the show about the EMP? The pilot had the bomb go off about 90-100 miles away in Denver. The same scene is repeated at the begining of each show. After that everything electronic worked and when the power came back, there even was Internet, TV, etc. The EMP was from a high altitude blast a few epsiodes later. It occured after a missle launch to the east. The townspeople watched the missles, mistakenly thought they were going to Russia (by missle Russia is NORTH of Kansas) and then saw a big bright overhead flash, like a fireworks finale on July fourth, but higher. Suddenly everyhting electronic, except for a "hardened" laptop hidden in a basement, died. This included "everything with a circuit board", the power grid, modern cars, etc. The townspeople just looked up........ Maybe they're going to repeal the laws of physics, would have to for your fantasy to occur, but them I never expected the neocons to shred our constitution either. What laws of physics? Seems you were assuming the EMP came from a different bomb, which kind of shreds your asumptions. Are you even watching the show? Funny, I can see you are not. Missed the whole EMP thing? Yes, I watch it. Every week. They have some interesting characters alright, and I guess any small town would have a few unpredictable sorts. That's the whole point. It's a small town of average people. There does not seem to be a suvivalist, or an Emmet Brown like in "Back To the Future", or even a Mormon (who is required to have a month's supply of food and other emergency supplies). There are paremedics in the burning school episode, but they never show up at any other time. Most of the time, the only person with any first aid training is the doctor, who is a main character. I think you've mistaken me for the original poster, but the show does seem to be based on cold war hysteria, and even contemporary scientific ignorance. Sorry, too many people with too little to say. :-) So far, it seems pretty reasonable to me. A group of terrorists smuggle small atomic bombs into many cities and set them off at the same time by hand. New York was able to stop them. The rest of it is based upon the actions of ignorant people, but too many postings on here are by people who have not seen the show, yet comment on it. In the late 60's I was getting well past my youthful aprehensions of the 40's and 50's and well on my way to being a blissful hippie. To quote Captian Kirk in the fourth Star Trek movie, " too much LDS in the sixties". Geoff. -- Geoffrey S.
