HD radios being mass marketed, MW DXing down the tube?

HD probably will be approved for night use, as there is so little
listening to AMs outside their groundwave interference free contours
and nothing would be lost.

I listen to out of the area AM stations all the time and I'm not Dx'ing
as a hobby but listening to the programs so a lot will be lost for me
and many other people that do the same.

If IBOC replaces the analog signal entirely and the IBOC power levels are
increased to anywhere near the stations full night time level, DXing IBOC on
the AM band will be very interesting and far more efficient IDing the
station for the DXer.

With VERY few buying HD Radios, there is no way analog could be shut
off for MANY years; the Bridge Ratings have analog going out until the
middle of the century. The problem is, IBOC causes adjacent-channel
interference, even within protected contours, so IBOC DXing would be
difficult.

If it's not shut off it will be shut-out... by iPods, XM, Sirius, MP3's,
Radio over IP, the future - all digital technologies.

Hope you enjoy your analog TV while it lasts.
