HD radios being mass marketed, MW DXing down the tube?

I notice that a number of stores have BUY BUY BUY THEY MAKE GREAT XMAS
GIFTS AND YOU DON'T GET A MONTHLY BILL FROM SIRIUS OR XM! ads for HD
Radio receivers. So once there is a reasonable per centage of HD
receivers will MW DX be a viable hobby? Will anyone outside the local
area be able to get radio stations 10 kHz away if they live anywhere
near an HD xmtr?

Hmm - that seems rather fast - not for the TV stations but for the
consumers to replace their TV receivers.

Of course, the British made all the TV receivers obsolete when they
went from 405-line VHF to 625-line UHF with PAL color available but I
think it must have taken decades for them to shut off the old
transmitters.

I think the FCC probably would approve nighttime IBOC-AM transmissions if
the radios somehow become popular. However, I doubt the radios will ever
sell well until they cost little more than standard radios and there's an
IBOC portable that's easy on batteries.

IBOC DXing is rather fun. A real kick picking up an AM station broadcasting
IBOC at a small fraction of power relative to the analog main carrier in
digital sound. Having a DX station's call-sign displayed for instant
station verification is pure bliss.

So far my best IBOC dx catch with "instant verification" was about 500 miles
via grayline one morning. Keep in mind that until the analog broadcast
signal is turned off, the IBOC signal is transmitted at a small fraction of
the power that the main analog signal is broadcast. So any IBOC DX catch
made right now is indeed a remarkable feat. The night that AM stations
broadcast in 100% IBOC only with full legal power will really be fun.

There are a few AM IBOC stations that broadcast about an hour or so before
and after their local sunrise/sunset.

IBOC/digital DXing is no different than DXing other digital modes like CW,
RTTY, HDTV, etc... All the whiners are just concerned that they will have
to retire their analog R8 receivers along with their analog TV's to the
museum. Hopefully, the IBOC decoder software will be made available in the
future for free and in the public domain. That would make IBOC available
for decoding on any receiver using a computer. Imagine the possibilities
with a software defined radio such as the SDR-1000.

possibilities
with a software defined radio such as the SDR-1000.

Don't listen to this piece-of-**** ! HD Radio/IBOC has only 60% the
coverage of analog and causes adjacent-channel interference. To learn
more, go to:

And, causing adjacent-channel interference - HD Radio/IBOC will fail.
Crutchfield is already getting out of the HD Radio business - other to

MW DXing down the tube? NOPE!

IBOC is currently transmitted at 1/100th (one/one hundredth) of the power of
the main analog carrier.
At that 1/100th power level it is covering 60% of the analog carrier -
INCREDIBLE!!!!

IBOC DXing is rather fun. A real kick picking up an AM station

broadcasting
IBOC at a small fraction of power relative to the analog main carrier in
digital sound. Having a DX station's call-sign displayed for instant
station verification is pure bliss.

So far my best IBOC dx catch with "instant verification" was about 500

miles
via grayline one morning. Keep in mind that until the analog broadcast
signal is turned off, the IBOC signal is transmitted at a small fraction

of
the power that the main analog signal is broadcast. So any IBOC DX

catch
made right now is indeed a remarkable feat. The night that AM stations
broadcast in 100% IBOC only with full legal power will really be fun.

There are a few AM IBOC stations that broadcast about an hour or so

before
and after their local sunrise/sunset.

IBOC/digital DXing is no different than DXing other digital modes like

CW,
RTTY, HDTV, etc... All the whiners are just concerned that they will

have
to retire their analog R8 receivers along with their analog TV's to the
museum. Hopefully, the IBOC decoder software will be made available in

the
future for free and in the public domain. That would make IBOC

available
for decoding on any receiver using a computer. Imagine the

possibilities
with a software defined radio such as the SDR-1000.

HELL!!! Can't we talk radio instead of flaming??!

What new SW listener, or possible listener, think about the
hobby?

dxAss is not a hobbyist. He is simply a garden variety bigot and
racist
who
uses the fact he owns an R8 as an excuse to stalk canadians and
others
he
considers undesirable (99.99999999999999% of Humanity) so he can
make
some
of the dumbest flames known to Usenet.

**** you, cocksucker (and fake Hispanic) !

Ah, I so admire a person with a strong command of language.

Ah, and I admire fake hispanics that use their name to get positions at
Univision, when they are only ****ing high-school dropouts !

The Lehman Brothers ratings scorecard for 2006 shows Univsion the #1
group
in the US based on ratings performance. There must be a reason I get paid
other than my baptismal name... and ratings must be that reason.

Yeah, that baptismal name that you made up c.2000!

That would make me about 5, then.

Ratings mean nothing - you changed your name from Gleason to Eduardo to
get your cushy job at Univision - amazing they pay you to post all day
long - troll.

Jeeze, are you ignorant. "Eduardo" is my second given name, just as "Bob" is
"Billy Bob's" second given name. My paternal last name is and always was
"Gleason" and my maternal surname is "Frackelton" (both being Irish).

In commercial radio in major markets, ratings are everything. They establish
pricing, and determine total revenue potential.

Xmas Present for DXass: Some Overlooked People to Hate

DxAss, Alleged collich graduate, and holder of the prized "Ignorant
and proud of it award" has vented his spleen ( he laughed his ass off
long ago) against Canadians, Mexicans, and others who are different
than him (shudder). He has missed one group: the residents of St.
Pierre and Michelon, a French province in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The
French are good at insults and would keep DxEcch out of our hair at
least until he has used up his four stock phrases (yawn) and returned
to the CB band. Get a CB radio, Boy.
