The new, Sangean DT200VX- what do you think?

Hi. The new Sangean DT200VX is the replacement for the famous, DT200V.
C Crane claims "better AM reception." Although I have the old model,
I have ordered a new one because of the even better Am reception.
Also, the new one has a backlight, and is supposed to have better
sound. Any opinions? What do you think?

I just received the Sony ICF-S10MK2 pocket-radio and it is on-par with
my more expensive digital PLL radios - if you are interested, here is a
review of it on RadioIntel.com:

http://www.radiointel.com/review-sonys10mk2.htm

It was only $10, including shipping, from J$R Music (also, on
SonyStyle.com). Here is the review, I wrote on Amazon, under
"analogAMforever":

Awesome radio for $10 !

It's not a bad radio. I received one as a gift a while back. But it doesn't
even have full AM X-band coverage.

From Maryland, there doesn't seem to be much in the new X-band, anyway;

the radio is awesome enough that it doesn't really matter. I bought
three for myself, so if I drop or lose one, who cares at $10, and I can
always have a relatively new radio to play with, and can always order
plenty more ! With the Sangeans running $60 - $70, one might as well
get a Degen SW radio for the same price, plus if one needs to replace
it, there is something to cry about !

There is little in the X-band from Maryland, anyway. Sangean's quality
sucks and Sony rules !

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Sangean claims the new model,
DT200VX, has better AM reception. If true, what might have been done
to the model to improve the AM reception?

I am definately not a "radio geek", just a radio lover, but if it is
any larger then maybe a larger ferrite-rod, a tuned input loop
(whatever that is), or an improved receiver chip (whatever that does).
You should definately try out the Sony ICF-S10MK2 - it's analog-tuned
so there is no PLL synthesizer noise...

This review is bizarre. Even ignoring that it compares the Sony to an
R75... And that it evaluates the sony for dxing... I'm still befuddled
by this: It evaluates the $10 Sony portable in conjunction with a loop
antenna that's gotta be 6 times as large as the radio! (And more
expensive.)

Who carries a loop antenna around to use with their shirt pocket
portable??? If you're willing to do that, might as well just by a
larger radio.

Would have been nice to see the data for the Sony as it is actually
going to be used -- by itself.

Well, with its internal ferrite-bar antenna, I can get up to 1200 miles
nighttime AM - not bad for a $10 radio !

Sony ICF-S10MK2 radio.I have one of those.I bought it over a year ago at
a Walgreens store.I don't think it's all that great of a radio
though.(by my very discerning ears) I played with it for a while (about
ten minutes) then I put it in a drawer and forgot all about it.
