Hi I remember reading in the radiointel review that the E1 does not
have a built- in ferrite AM antenna. However, I've read in this group that the E1 uses the whip antenna for AM reception, much like a car radio. Is this true? How is the MW reception on the E1 without an optional external antenna? |

I would say that, although it is not quite a DX machine for MW, it is still respectable with the whip. -- "Don't get too wrapped up in dogma. Who knows? It is very sensitive on MW with the whip......but.....the whip has little
immunity to locally generated noise sources within my household. I cannot rotate it to reject a noise source as compared to a radio with a ferrite rod. There is no issue with lack of sensitivity...but there will be more noise with that signal as compared to a set with a ferrite. "dead of night" wrote in message oups.com... Absolutely unbelievable, for a radio in this price class without an internal ferrite-bar antenna, and without a Satellite Radio antenna, too ! God, pay $400 - $500 for another Eaton **** receiver, with a plastic housing and cheap plastic knobs, and add on another $100 for the extra antennas ! Jesus ! |

The truth is that this receiver is at LEAST as good as the 2010, Sat800, and anything else out there in the portable family. Why are you on such a mission to speak ill of this radio? Give it a rest and gfy. -- "Don't get too wrapped up in dogma. Who knows? I'd recommend using it with an external antenna. If you buy the E1 from Universal Radio, they give you a free Grundig G-4000 portable that you can probably sell for about $100. they also have the antenna adapters for hooking up whatever external antenna you want. I even think I heard a claim that Eton might provide you with an antenna adapter, maybe free. I use a Radio shack loop (discontinued) that is the same as the terk AM advantage antenna that sells for about $50. this gets me some reception some nights on MW/AM from Europe, Africa & the Middle East. Yes, they made a mistake with the antenna connector. But it's still considered the best portable ever made. George S., MN |

Honestly I find the E1 to be a very solid radio! It weighs a ton and has a very utilitarian feel to it. The knobs have ZERO wobble or play in them, the display is immaculate, the whip is beefy and sturdy, the sync detector is very quick and effective, etc.... what more do you want other than the ferrite bar? -- "Don't get too wrapped up in dogma. Tecsun/Eton/Grundig - "made with slave wages in China" ! I And yes, the cheapo plastic knobs wobble ! |
