If memory serves me correct, you live in or near Georgetown KY.
If so, could you take a listen to ~454.2KHz for an odd FSK signal that is not IF related. I have it on several receivers, one of which doesn't use 455 as the IF. I am trying to see if it is a local or it is strong enough for you to get. S5 for me on a variety of antennas. I was planing on changing antennas this long weekend but the 3" of rain has dampened my spirits so to speak. I hate working in the rain. Terry |

I got it at S-7 in Nicholasville Ky about 12 miles South of Lexington on the
following rigs...Its a loud Pulse here switching every second or so. Icom IC- 718 Yaesu FT-1000D Yaesu FT-857D Ernie / KC4IVG wrote in message oups.com... Hi Terry,
Yes, I am in Georgetown. Its 03:02 UTC.....had to watch 24.....Yes I hear something on 454+- khz. it is a noise with a pulse in it that pulses every second or so. What the heck is it ???? Its pretty loud here. On the K9AY I get the best signal South/ South West. S-8 on the NRD545. When I switch to the north it is S2 or so. All good antennas are put up in foul WX. Adds at least 3db over a fair WX antenna. 73 es DX Ken KG4BIG wrote: If memory serves me correct, you live in or near Georgetown KY. What ever it is it is getting weaker. Now S-4 @ 03:18. With the antenna
switched to the north it is down in the noise now. Or maybe just QSB? Ken Ken Wilson wrote: Hi Terry, Yes, I am in Georgetown. I did not explain the directions very well.
The null is to the south/south west. So the signal is most likely coming from the north of me. Ken Ken Wilson wrote: Hi Terry, Yes, I am in Georgetown. But this soup is just too much. I find it hard to accept that I am looking forward to colder weather as it wll freeze this cr er stuff. I am using a LF/MW/HF phaser and it appears to be slightly NE of me. And there is a long term variation. I normally think of LW as being "imune" to propagation effects, but at 455 it is clear there is some fading. And I think this signal is fairly far to get this much fading. Thanks for repsonding. I have to go to my sister in laws next week end and I hope to take a minimal set of antennas to see if 200 miles west is enough of a base line to allow some accurate measurements to be taken. It looks like a mulit-tone FSK for .8S with a .2S synch pulse. Terry |

![]() Ken Wilson wrote: Terry Good luck with your test. One of these days I want to play around with some of Dallas Lankford's low noise vertical antenna designs. BTW.....if you want to look at my listening shack....I have a picture up on QRZ.com under my call KG4BIG. vy 73, Ken Dallas's active antennas configured as a dipole and mounted horizontal allow the desired signal to be peaked, or noise nulled. 2 of these dipoles mounted as vertical dipoles and coupled to his new simple phaser allow electronic steering. His new 15' relay switched vertical works very well, but may need to be amplified for use with the phaser. The rain stopped that experiment. His simpler active antenna shown in his "Low Noise Active Antenna AC/DC Power Supplies" is a good antenna for locations that have "reasonable" MW signals. My local 770KHz pest is strong enough to give some 2nd harmonic and I have some mix of the 770 and 1240. Terry |
