I need to spend much more time listening to unknown Lang's to get an ear for what they sound like. 73, Ken UK has a good language program. It might help to call there and see if you could arange samples of the more "common" languages. Spain still has influence and maybe contol in some parts of north africa. It wouldn't be too surprising to find a station with a odd mix of Spanish and Arabic. I will try to monitor the frequency Thursday and see if I can understand anything. Four semesters of Spanish at UK didn't really prepare me for the real world. Native speakers talk too darn fast. And the local/regional accents are a killer. I never could understand Cuban Spanish. My Professsora was a Spainish major and had studied ancient, pre Islamic conquest, Spainish and Arabic. We had a Jewish girl and it was fascinating to see the Professor and her compare Arabic with Hebrew. Terry |
