Default next question: ROTORS!

Ok, so I have made up my mind and decided to purchase the Wellbrook ALA
330S antenna for my Drake R8B. My next purchase will be a rotor for it.
Will a regular plain Jane $65 setup for TV antenna's work, or do I need
one specifically designed for HAM/SWL use?

It all depends on how many sq ft of antenna the rotor will handle...

As tiny as that antenna is ....buy the smallest cheapest rotor you can
possibly find...Believe me the smallest you can find will be serious
overkill for that little toy!.....I would have saved the cash and put up a
pair of wires and probably got better performance.

I live in a 2nd story apartment, and space is very limited, hence the
reason I went with the wellbrook.

I live in a townhome with CCR's out the wazooo....Go to EHAM.com and look in
stealth antenna forums for ideas.Type in "Stealth Antenna" in google and see
what you find. I have 7 antenna's up and all are invisible!

I chatted for an hour with a South African amateur today on 20 meters and
made a few contacts in Europe...Stealth Antenna's work!

So the rotor and antenna will be in your apartment as well?

A few years ago when I was listening to one of my CB radios, one night I
heard an 18 wheeler truck driver say he had just gotten through with
talking to a guy in New Zealand on his CB radio.

A 1-meter diameter loop shouldn't require anything bigger than a
decent tv rotator.

I agree that the wind load in negligable for the ALA-330s so a small
standard TV rotor wll work fine. I disagree that the Wellbrook
antennas are toys. I assume the person who said that either doesn't
have one.

I believe Wellbrook Antennas are serious Antennas and not toys.A tv
rotator will handle your Antenna just fine.
