I was hoping to get some recommendations on a small AC powered shortwave. *Maybe something $150 or less. *Ive seen plenty of sites that have radios at this price and cheaper, with some brands I know, like Sony, and some Ive never heard of. I looked on jr.com, which seemed to have a good selection, but I dont know enough about the technology or the brands to know what I want / need. Like I said, I would be interested in listening to international stations, Italy would be nice. *I live in Rhode Island, on the East Coast, if that helps with reception. I'm fairly ignorant of most things shortwave, but would like to get more informed. Ive done some searching on this group for recommendations, but figured Id post the question again, to get the latest info. Thanks -peter Just, don't buy the Tecsun/Eton/Grundig S350 - it is a cheap, plastic- boxed piece-of-****, or any radio that smells of the S350 (I mean that, literally - it has a cheap, imitation-leather, smelly handle) ! Ignore this guy. * He jumps in with this same "advice" anytime *anyone* mentions buying a radio. * Tecsun/Eton?Grundig radios are just fine - I have several of each. Mike- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Sonys are the only decent SW radio - ignore this guy. You will be sorry, if you purchase the S350 - severe tuning-backlash, single- conversion superhet with bunches of images and birdies, no memories, filters that do nothing but muffle the audio, very cheap plastic case and switches, plastic speaker grill, smelly handle, and no SSB or sync/ det. Get the Sony 7600GR, for a few bucks more. |
